Gato Figueroa off of Toney-Peter card tonight

Francisco "Gato" Figueroa was supposed to be facing a journeyman Jose Badillo on tonight's undercard of Toney-Peter II, but the fight fell through and he is looking for another bout in the near future. Damn, all that training and hard work down the drain. Plus with training expenses, I'd be tight as a motherf'er.

Topic, are you and the rest of boxingscene's staff making predictions on Toney-Peter ? I was surprised not to see anything on the main page of boxingscene.

I didn't get an email from Rick stating we would be doing such, and frankly, I'm not too hot on that topic to be real. The first fight was so sloppy and languid at times, that dissecting the action between two fat guys isn't too much a priority for me. But if I had to make a pick, I'd go with Peter to win a little more convincingly by decision and then Toney goes and makes a Hopkins bout in the summer. Peter will go on to detonate Maskaev and then will lose his belt to a guy who isn't supposed to beat him. Peter isn't progressing as I would've liked to see him, he seems to have stalled the learning process and is trying to just kill everyone ala George Foreman, only without nearly as much power.

The first fight wasnt sloppy... what were you watching?

I like the first fight... and it's definetly gonna be a great fight this time. Quote me on it if you'd like.

And you must really like Gato, cause he really isnt that great. He lost to Rios in the Garden. I thought he got a definite gift.

He's to small for the weight class. He needs to drop down

To me the first fight was slopp by the middle rounds when the two fat guys started getting tired. What was I watching? I was watching the same fight and if there is a problem with my perspective, well then thats an issue for you and not for me.

About Gato, I think he's an exceptional fighter and was admittedly having some issues with Rios' more conventional style. But he has shown drastic improvement in his career as of late, he's much better now than he was about 2 years ago. I have a lot of respect for Gato.

Topic, aren't you excited about this bout like the rest of us on nsb? I think this fight has the potential to be a classic hw battle. At least that's the pitch I've been making to my friends who are watching this with me tonight.

Nah, not really. Call me when a lightweight unification bout happens and I'll be into it.

Jose "Yungo" Badillo from PR? If that's the case, talk about shot fighters! Man Gato needs to raise his level of comp, I know he can do better than that.

Yeah, the one and only. That fight is off, though. It was listed as being official on Boxrec, but then it fell through. Now some of the peoples who work for Gato were trying to chew me out over the announcement, but I'm like the Heisman trophy, I give them all the stiff arm LOL
