banks is the WBO NABO cruiserweight champion coutesy of his victory over castillo

which automatically ranks him for a title shot with the WBO, so the only real reason for the WBO is cause its the quickest way to a title and since banks is planning to move to heavyweight anyhow he simply wants to get a world title and a defense or two before moving on, he isnt lookig to build a cruiserweight legacy.

banks cant even get a fight against mid-level top-level comp at cruiser right now cause nobody wants to fight him unless they absolutely have to... he had to step up and fight castillo (undefeated at cruiser) on less than a months notice cause that was the only fight he could get... he had never fought anyone but journeyman before castillo, it was one of the most sudden steps up in class ive seen a fighter make and he passed with flying colors

Haye will fight for a proper world championship title this year. Banks may fight for Maccarinelli's fairly bogus belt (WBO is credible enough, but this particular Cruiserweight title isn't).
i never said he has fought better competition throughout his career, i said that a victory over eliseo castillo (main event on ESPN wednesday night fights) is much more significant than any win on haye's pro record, if you cant admit that then you are the crazy one.... banks overall competition is quite spotty cause as i said in another post, nobody good will fight him unless they have.

and who are you to determine which belts are bogus and which arent? the champion makes the belt, not the other way around.

if you watch banks closely you will see that emmanuel steward has molded him into a fighting stylemuch more similar to that of lennox lewis than he has even been able to teach wladamir....

banks has a left cross/ left hook hybrid that he uses to slash through his opponents guard, it always reminds me of lennox when he throws it. that was the punch that took castillo apart, he didnt know where it was coming from once banks started throwing it at will....

youre right, hell of a fight, and i think it was the TKO of the year, i should nominate it in the other thread but i dont think enough people saw it for it to get the respect it deserves.... castillo was unconscious for about 30 seconds... which was funny cause ive seen banks fight in person on 3 occasions and only one guy remained conscious

Thats why the WBo Cruiserweight belt is bogus. Its simple really, the WBA and WBC are the non paper titles at Cruiserweight.

this Castillo bloke doesn't strike me as being better than say Alexander Gurov or the tough Italian Haye just fought (Fragomeni).

well its probably cause thats what you want to see

look at their records, fragomeni and gurov have not beaten one single respectable world level opponent between the two of them, in fact the average boxing fan wouldnt recognize a single name on either of their ledgers cept for the names of the guys that knocked them out... in gurovs case, 3 other times inside of 3 rounds by 3 guys nobody knows...

castillo on the other hand beat michael moorer, a former heavyweight champ, and he did it at heavyweight, before moving down to cruiserweight and being knocked out by johnathon banks.

as far as the WBA being a legit belt, thats a joke too considering the WBA champ for almost all of 2006 was virgil hill who has never defended it once.... hill won the "vacant" title after bell was stripped of it after winning it from mormeck. and i believe its "vacant" again... sure doesent sound like a paper title to me ..... but maybe this is the one you expect haye to fight for, so you want to believe its legit.

Moorer was about 10 years out of his prime.

Banks is relatively untested compared to David Haye and has never fought anyone as good as Carl Thompson (Haye fought a Carl Thompson in top notch condition)

Bell is the WBA Super champion. Hence he is the real WBA Champion. He has the WBC and WBA straps. Haye wants to fight Bell. This Banks fellow wants to fight Maccarinelli.

I sense a slight difference in their ambitions........
