Toney: "I'm Going To Put Peter's Lights Out"

Los Angeles, CA – Determined to leave no doubt this time, James “Lights Out” Toney has added the services of renowned training and fitness guru Billy Blanks to ensure he steps into the ring on January 6, 2007 in the best possible condition when he takes on Samuel Peter in their WBC Heavyweight Title Elimination rematch at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida. Another critical area in which Blanks and Arthur are monitoring Toney is in his diet, as they try to tighten up his midsection and help his endurance. But Arthur cautions against expectations of seeing a slimmer, lighter Toney.

“Sam Peter is a big man at around 270 pounds,” Arthur observed. “You’re not going to be able to withstand his power and size giving up 50 pounds. I told Billy that I’m not too worried about how he looks physically as long as he performs to his maximum capability. We have him on a special diet now and are watching his intake. That is most important. James really doesn’t eat a whole lot. It’s just not the right stuff that he orders. We now have him on a good regimen.”

......I love the disclaimer section above. So even if Toney comes into the ring as his usual fat self we are supposed to believe he is in tip top shape. ha ha ha

Yeah, it funny considering that his size is what most effects his ability to throws his punches without ending up of balanced, Toney's stamina has always been great, so this doesn't really make very much sense to me

Yeah, the window is closed on Toney's opportunity to be legit HW champion. If he hadn't injured himself vs. Booker and subsequently tested positive for steroids after Ruiz, and if he had trained just an iota for Rahman, he never would have had to take the Peter fight, and he'd be angling for a unification showdown with Klitschko for summer 2007. Instead, he got stripped of the WBA title (now Valuev's), looked embarrassing against Rahman (lucky to get a draw), and couldn't keep Peter off him long enough to get the decision in September.

He won't ever win another heavyweight belt.
