  • Winky Wright Dominates Quartey in Homecoming

An impressive homecoming for Ronald "Winky" Wright (51-3-1, 25 KOs), as he dominated former welterweight champion Ike Quartey (37-4-1, 31 KOs) before a cheering arena of supporters in Tampa, Florida.

Wright showed Quartey that size does matter when you move up in weight. He dominated the former champ in a one-sided twelve round decision to maintain his status as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the sport.

Quartey put on a game effort for a great veteran fighter close to 40 than 30, but was unable to beat the bigger and better man in Wright. Wright scored flash knockdowns in rounds two and seven, neither knockdown was clean. [details]

Fight got old after 8 rounds. After seeing this fight its clear Quartey has the better defence. Though both used each other like punching bags, at time they looked like bobble heads, they hit each other so consistantly.

Ike would have never beaten wright. Wrights to big and strong.

I thought is was a good fight. And when Wright fights DLH, if hes in his new "crowd pleasing" mode, that could be a WAR. Which you dont see Wright in to often.

I actually think this fight could be a dark spot on his legacy. People will say that hes just beating up on old guys (Trinidad, Quartey, soon to be DLH) and when he gets in with a young buck, he struggles (taylor, Soliman)

But we all know that aint true. But it could be an arguement down the line

I dispute it. No one was expecting Winky to lose.

you must be having nightmares of Pac....

Winky beat Ike to the punch... the knockdowns, hmmmmm.... in the seventh it was clear as day that Ike's hand didn't touch the canvas.... Winky's win was a lot more convincing unlike the other fight (clottey vs. hypeman)

Ike was very competitive in the fight though, and those knockdowns were bull****. I hope Ike doesnt retire, he looked good and Id like to see him fight Mayorga, Vargas, Margarito, SPinks cause I think he has a shot at beating them. Him vs Mosley, DeLaHoya, Mayweather would be good.
