  • The Carl Froch Appreciation Thread.

Not a dig at Funky Munk. I thought about this over a Scotch Egg & a pint down the pub earlier (you don't know what a treat a Scotch Egg is when you live in the States).

First off, I had Groves up 78-73 (even after watching again without Jim Watt) and didn't think Groves was in any significant trouble. I have no idea what would have happened in the remaining 3 odd rounds but the stoppage was wrong.

BUT, Froch is a warrior & a great credit to boxing, not just in the UK but around the world.

He might well be an arrogant wanker when talking about his fights BUT THAT'S PART OF WHAT MAKES HIM SUCH A TRUE FIGHTER!

That stubborn resistance to know when he's beaten. He was beaten to the punch again & again against Groves but was still there and coming on at the (premature) end.

I was a big Lloyd Honeyghan fan but always thought he was an arrogant bastard then I had the pleasure to talk to him at a boxing event in 1999 (or 2000) and he was a top notch bloke.

The way a boxer talks about fights & other fighters doesn't, and shouldn't, define him as a whole.

I disagree with the stoppage and I disagree with Froch's post fight comments but I'm still a huge fan & will cheer him on whenever he fights (or be neutral in a rematch with Groves).

He has the heart of a thousand lions & a few arrogant comments from him isn't going to change that fact. This is boxing. It's a tough sport for tough men (& women) & Froch is up there with the toughest.

    Fair play to the man.

Credit where credit is due he has achieved alot.
I suppose it could be argued that I'm expecting too much but I think he could really have brought boxing back to the main stream. Maybe that's not his job either.
I know that I no longer wish to contribute to his pension fund though and won't be PPV having bought them previously.
P.s you should start making your own scotch eggs you'll never go back to shop bought!!

he won the groves fight (no early stoppage in my eyes) & has accomplished great things in the ring. not many have fought better competition then him the last few years. he has lost a step after so many battles but still a great fighter & warrior. 2 more fights & he is done. he wants ward & i wonder who else he would fight? no groves rematch needed unless the money is too good to pass on. he has had a great career.

Carl Froch is a rare breed in boxing. He got my full respect as a human being, both inside and outside the ring. Even though Groves might have beaten him in their fight, it wasn't his fault that the ref did the job earlier.

Carl Froch should be apriciated as much as any other boxer, because he has delivered time and time again. Always FOTY candidates with him.

froch is a atg, hall of fame and best british fighter ever not named Calzaghe.

Stoppage was perfectly fair and the boxing board backed howards good decision.

Hes saved groves career and given froch the well earned win.

            Well done froch

Do you know any British fighters other than Froch and Calzaghe? Froch is perhaps the greatest British fighter ever not named Calzaghe, Haye, Lewis, Nelson, Hamed, Benn, Eubank, Andries, McGuigan, Honeyghan, Hope, Minter, Watt, Stracey, Conteh, Buchanan, McGowan, Winstone, Downes, Turpin, Lynch, Berg, Kid Lewis, Wilde.

Froch does however have one of the truly great chins.

I've never particularly liked Froch because he has always been the arrogant wanker that he has shown so clearly after the Groves fight although Froch is probably getting too much stick for the Groves fight. The stoppage was early but I don't think the result was any different than it would have been if the ref had let it go on longer. Funny how things turn, Froch walks into the ring popular and a star and leaves the ring to boos. Who says sports fans are fickle?

eubank??who robbed more b level fighters Haye that's a wind up right?? Stopped by carl Thompson, couldn't beat valuev and got arse ****d by Wladimir.

Carl froch is the best ever british fighter not named Calzaghe and his resume shows this, and hes still going strong.

if froch beats either Bernard Hopkins, ggg hes pretty muuch best ever resume wise. Even though joe calazghe would have prob beaten him.

Biggest thing to have come out of Nottinghamshire since Robin Hood, Raleigh Bicycles, DH Lawrence, Brian 'Call me God' Clough, Tim Birkin, Allan Sillitoe, Jesse Boot and Paul Smith. And trust me that's a feckin' impressive list people

Try and learn about the history of British boxing before making such ridiculous claims. Ken Buchanan beat Laguna twice, Stracey beat Napoles, Minter beat Antuofermo twice, Turpin beat Sugar Ray Robinson and Humez. Froch has had an impressive career but he has quite a long way to go to be anywhere as great a British boxer as you are claiming. I also doubt he'd beat Hopkins or Golovkin but time will tell on that one.
