Not a dig at Funky Munk. I thought about this over a Scotch Egg & a pint down the pub earlier (you don't know what a treat a Scotch Egg is when you live in the States).
First off, I had Groves up 78-73 (even after watching again without Jim Watt) and didn't think Groves was in any significant trouble. I have no idea what would have happened in the remaining 3 odd rounds but the stoppage was wrong.
BUT, Froch is a warrior & a great credit to boxing, not just in the UK but around the world.
He might well be an arrogant wanker when talking about his fights BUT THAT'S PART OF WHAT MAKES HIM SUCH A TRUE FIGHTER!
That stubborn resistance to know when he's beaten. He was beaten to the punch again & again against Groves but was still there and coming on at the (premature) end.
I was a big Lloyd Honeyghan fan but always thought he was an arrogant bastard then I had the pleasure to talk to him at a boxing event in 1999 (or 2000) and he was a top notch bloke.
The way a boxer talks about fights & other fighters doesn't, and shouldn't, define him as a whole.
I disagree with the stoppage and I disagree with Froch's post fight comments but I'm still a huge fan & will cheer him on whenever he fights (or be neutral in a rematch with Groves).
He has the heart of a thousand lions & a few arrogant comments from him isn't going to change that fact. This is boxing. It's a tough sport for tough men (& women) & Froch is up there with the toughest.
Fair play to the man.
