  • Burns / Simpson / McDonnell this weekend

A few interesting fights this weekend :

    John Simpsons Vs Choi Tseveenpurev
Ricky Burns Vs Jose A Gonzalez
    Jamie McDonnell Vs Julio Ceja

I always find Simpson's fights entertaining, and his fight against Choi could be fun. Ricky Burns defends his title and McDonnell fights for the vacant IBF title.
I actually don't know a great deal Gonzalez and Ceja..Ceja looks to have a good KO percentage though.

    What you fellas reckon?

Ceja v McDonnell could be a cracker.

A young, confident and visiting champion with a big reputation for being a hard, destructive puncher against a hometown lad with boxing skills, a very decent engine and who has probably got only this chance to lift a world title.

As I've said on another thread....this is potentially a classic with a perfect mix of styles but each man bringing enough to the ring to win. A classic, seasoned, tall European boxer against a South American puncher.

I agree,Mcdonnell has improved a lot these last few years but is still only a European level fighter imo,i don't know much about Ceja but i also think this could be a very good scrap

Mate, sorry to pick you up on this but Mexico is in NORTH AMERICA. Then there's Central America & then South America starts a couple of thousand miles south of Mexico.

It's a little like calling McDonnell 'Russian' or 'African'.

You could use the term "Latin America" though.

Anyway, if Jamie can get to the halfway stage in good shape, he wins.

        Same with Burns.

I'm really hoping Ceja has good odds (not the favourite), as I'll lump a lot on him. The Simpson fight should be a war and I'm expecting Burns to beat Gonzalez after a few shaky moments.

Purdy in America next week too!

Are we giving Purdy a chance against Alexander?

              No.

Beaten by a shot-to-shit Colin Lynes, hopefully good value on Alexander via stoppage.

He has literally zero chance,Paulie has more chance of beating Broner than Purdy does of beating Devon,i would be surprised if it goes the distance

@Taansend....you are right to pick me up; sloppy stuff from my end.

I am hoping Jamie can do this, he's been bubbling along nicely for a couple of years now but I think he's going to need a bit of extra pop on his punches to stop Ceja from surging forwards.

Would love to see Burns do well, he was masterful against Mitchell and he really does seem to be punching with a bit more bite these days.

Why in God's name is McDonnell fighting on PPV? Is that a wind up or something?

That will do about 50 buys.
