  • Rhodes lost to Gary Lockett!.

I have seen quite a few Rhodes fights, and i am expecting him to beat Alvarez to be honest.

There is one thing that sticks in my mind though, how did he lose to Gary Lockett?.

I haven't seen that fight, can someone that has break it down for us, because i find it hard to believe...

Rhodes boxed the naturally bigger, hard-punching man off the back foot and did some good stuff in spells, but let himself be outworked somewhat, while resilient - both fighters got put down (Rhodes' more of a flash KD early, Lockett's a more hurtful one later on as Rhodes showed what he's made of) and the width of the scores for Lockett was questionable (especially one very wide card).

Lockett wasn't that bad of a fighter, BTW, he just wasn't a world-class operator is all. People act like he was complete trash because he got iced by a prime Pavlik (who was a very different animal back then and a long way better than the shell of Kelly we've seen since Hopkins).

Ryan wasn't a world-class operator at MW 5 years ago, either, and wouldn't be now. His optimum weight is showing to be JMW, which he's built well for - that's where he should be, mixing it with men his own size, where he can be competetive with his ability level, which can't really make up the difference at 160.

So the Lockett defeat isn't relevant, IMO.

Good post by MIB, never seen that either.

But then again I just watched Rhodes get torn up by Lee Blundell.

A man who appeared to have based his fighting style on a kangaroo.

          That's boxing, I suppose.

Any chance you may have footage of said fight?

Nah, wouldn't mind seeing it again myself - just tried the VTB, no dice. It was shown on the ITV4 portion of the card.
