  • Kevin Mitchell

What's happened to Mitchell, he is completely off the radar. I know he said he would take some time off and get his head straight after the Katsidis defeat so it was no surprise he wasn't on Warrens first Magnificent 7 bill, but I'm surprised he isn't having a tune up fight on next weekends event...

Does anyone know whats happening with Kev?

    He's talented - but I have a feeling he's a headcase.

Katsidis showed him what level he really belongs at. Might be a european title in him somewhere at max.

I have to say I had high hopes for Mitchell and was shocked at the manner of the defeat to Katsidis although they were well documented concerns over his approach to training and his commitment prior to the fight (I seem to recall). I think he is still potentially world level, maybe not a champ but competitive(in terms of boxing ability) but I think the problem may be his mental toughness. Katsidis broke the young mans heart and if he wasn't taking the sport serious enough beforehand then he may just not have the heart or dedication for it. It's a bit like the questions that I had with Ortiz after the MM fight. Obviously Ortiz has come back but some fighters just don't recover and lose the will, I hope Mitchell ain't one of them cause he does have alot to offer.

          Unfair write-up.

I wasn't at all. And that's not a knock on Kevin's talent, but I expected it could go down that way because the opposition he'd been feeding off was no adequate preparation to face a guy like Katsidis (even if Kevin was excellent against Prescott, that guy's 'world class' reputation really only came down to 60 seconds work against a shambolic Khan). It wasn't all the fault of that one camp...if anything, that's an excuse.

Mitchell looked really small against Katsidis. I don't think he is a real lightweight. Losing at West Ham the way he did in the biggest fight of his life must have really dented his ego. Mentally I am not sure he will recover. He was having domestic problems I doubt losing has helped that especially as his other half was undermined his preparation.

on a funny note the amount of fair weather "fans" who were there just cos he's a West Am boy didn't help much. They all assumed he was the champ cos he was their boy. When the MC announced "please welcome the challenger..." a good proportion of the crowd initially booed not realising it was Mitchell. Me and my mate were in stitches

You're right the difference in muscular size between the two was very notable... also Katsidis' ring entrance is mint

Hope Mitchell makes a come back soon though

Watching Katsidis lose to an old great champion must really make Mitchell realise his level compared to the best. He need to come back and keep active. The longer he leaves it the harder it is going to be.

Well, he was big enough to shake Katsidis up with some punches.

I said it before he lost to Mike, he should get the same chance Khan was given to refine his boxing skills with a higher caliber of coaching in the US, even moreso now he took that loss.

The gameplan wasn't to be on the ropes at all against Katsidis, but he ended up there and looked clueless, hanging around posing, which might have looked nice if it wasn't Mike Katsidis in front of him throwing straight right hands and winging hooks. Then contrast with how Marquez dealt with Katsidis off the ropes...and there's nobody who'd say that JMM is a big lightweight.

                    .
He has got a kid. There was talk about him training in the States but I think his domestic situation changed his mind and kept him in the UK. Women and boxing prospects on the way up don't mix. Does anyone know if he is still with Jimmy Tibbs?
