  • Froch has improved as a boxer

A lot has been written about Abraham being exposed as a B level fighter but the truth is Froch has improved as a boxer and made Abraham look bad.
Froch is now standing less square on with his upper body . This presents a smaller target and the chin is covered by the left shoulder. This set up made it more difficult for Abraham to land his most dangerous weapon ,his right hand. It also amplified Froch's reach advantage and improved his jab which was keeping Abraham at bay.
Froch has learned from his loss to Kessler to follow a game plan. He did not get seduced into a brawl with Abraham which would have played into Abraham's hands. The Kessler experience taught Froch the importance of body punching. Froch complained in the breaks between rounds that Kessler's body shots were killing him. Against Abraham he was really going for the body.
Froch has narrowed his stance which has improved his mobility and given him more options.
Clearly Froch has learned lessons from his loss to Kessler and learned how to beat Abraham by watching the Abraham/ Dirrell fight. A lot of people are discrediting the win by saying Abraham is garbage. That is not the case he was just made to look that way. Going into this fight many considered that Froch would end up getting KOd. The fact that people's opinions have changed about Abraham is because of Froch's performance. Abraham had no answers.
Right now there is no question in my mind Froch is the UK's best fighter and deserves more media attention.

Well, while I do agree that Froch has made some adjutments in order to outbox and ultimately win in convincing fashion against Abraham, I still can't give him too much credit for being... a "boxer."

In all honesty, Froch may have gotten the job done by out-maneuvering his opponent, but he looked really awkward doing it and if he ever tried to incorporate that same style again against anyone else in the Super 6, it would never fly because of his natural flat-footedness (if that's even a word lol).

It really doesn't take that much to train an all-out brawler like Froch to condition Abraham (because of his style) with the jab and then attack the body later (which is what Taylor neglected to do in the first place).

I kind of agree wit both points, but credit to McCracken for taking a pretty slow guy and getting him to box effectively and to Froch for following the game plan very well.

I agree somewhat with you.. I think that Froch needed that loss to get back down to earth and realize what he had to do, to succeed.

He did it impressively in my opinion.
I wanted him to win, but was counting on a late round KO by Abraham. It never happened due to Froch, having been taught a lesson by Kessler, suddenly realized what he had to do to beat the guy.

Question is now, is it enough to reach the finals or perhaps even winning the Super Six?

HEs had that boxing ability since when he started, he was a good amateaur n had great boxing skills. since hesbeen in pros, hes been in some so called 'wars' with pascal, kessler etc. but against AA he displayed his all round boxing skills, movement, constent jab and being clever in the ring

He certainly showed a lot of discipline against Abraham and that was key,he has learnt from the kessler fight but also learnt from previous fights that you dont always need to go too war just for the sake of it,will being disciplined help him against johnson? certainly, although i feel the road warrior will prove a much sterner test than AA.I hope Froch meets ward at some point,it will be interesting too see what strategy he adopts against him

              said this one before

abraham's tourney opponents were the two softest guys out there in terms of taking his punches

froch got hit with a few big shots and got better as the night went on

              abraham's a one trick pony
if he cannot bomb you out of the waterr (and fight at home apparently)
he wont beat you if you'rea competant world class SMW with a chin and power

Edit: should add that i'm a BIG froch fan (was ringside for his fight with taylor )
and he fought the PERFECT fight and showed massive improvements. credit his trainer and himself (and edwin rodriguez w/ some new england home cookin in sparring)

i would have liked to see him step it up in there and damage abraham some more by going to the body earlier and setting up a late stoppage
abraham looked soft mentally in there even if he does have a very good chin

Froch's flaws were badly exposed in his fights with Jermain Taylor and Andre Dirrell - the two best boxers he has fought.

Froch fought a disciplined fight, but it was hardly a clinic or some type of masterclass performance. He kept him on the outside and just outpunched and outworked him. He's still as wide open for counters as a boxer can be.

Froch is still crude, and he'd lose decisively to both Ward and Dirrell. He's not going to have an easy time with Johnson, either.
