Jersey Joe Walcott gets plenty of respect from anyone that's heard of him, wouldn't say he's underrated at all.
On Jersey Joe you enunciated my opinion perfectly; regarding Barbados Joe I believe he is unknown/forgotten by the general sport fan, even by the casual fight fan, but among us, who know of him he is highly regarded. Those who know him tend to rate him high.

A great fighter, but he gets more attention than Britton and MxFarland which IS wrong.

          - -IBRO 2020 update ranks him at #17 heavy with no rankings at LH or Middle.

His contempary Ez ranked highly in heavy and #1 LH.

          Any objections?

Walcott was a far better all around boxer than Wlad, no argument there. I agree on Marciano too. He gets dismissed as beating washed fighters, but Charles wasn’t much older and was plenty game. Walcott had enough in the tank to give Rock a run for his money as did Moore. The naysayers conveniently forget Rock was only about 185 and almost always the smaller guy.

I have the same trouble figuring where to rank Walcott myself. I can make an argument for somewhere on the lower end of top twenty heavyweights.
Walcott ensconses every reason why I hate "lists." So many magnificent fighters, so few numbers...

How do rank him compared to Charles? he seemed to get better with age, some fighters just do... Incidently he is named after another similar great fellow, the original Walcott, five feet and a few inches of dynamite.

Dempsey? Named after the Nonparailed one! lol. The original dempsey was named "the fighting c o c k." Somehow that does not translate well...But we get the point.
