Damage done during sparring is OLD news. Unfortunately it goes with the territory. The only way to be a good technical fighter is to fight via learning your craft in the ring. The only way to be an ATG fighter is to learn your craft in the ring and have exceptional will to win, heart, determination and killer instinct which predominantly are characteristics one cannot be "taught". Big biceps, a weight lifters physique buys a fighter nothing to develop these aforementioned attributes.

Of course--these fighters competed against others who did not lift weights*.

*In the modern sense of the word; resistance training of one form or another (sit ups, pushups, chopping wood, etc.) has been a part of boxing since time immemorial.

Nautilus and MedX founder Arthur Jones deserves much of the credit; sadly, boxers and boxing trainers remain what might charitably be called "late adopters".

Here are 1975 and 1976 Nautilus ads (and an article) on the neck training of **** Butkus. 43 years later, boxers are still training their necks with wrestler's bridges.

One of the early adopters in football was Don Shula, as mentioned in this 1973 Nautilus brochure:

Being able to lift a heavy weight will not help you in the ring with an ATG fighter or for that matter a better fighter.

They took coins and put them in tiny water balloons and swallowed them , gradually increasing the amount .

This would bloat them and slow their metabolism down long enough before they had to shyte .

There was a guy we used to call heavy legged Andy who jingled his way into the bar with coins dropping out of him .......he died of copper poisoning at high zinc levels resulting in kidney failure from ppl punching him in the stomach popping the balloons !

A sea turtle nicknamed “Bank” has died of complications following surgery to remove nearly 1,000 coins she swallowed during captivity, vets in Thailand have said.

The cause of death was blood poisoning from the loose change, doctors at the veterinary faculty at ****kok’s Chulalongkorn University confirmed.

“She at least had the chance to swim freely and eat happily before she passed,” said Dr Nantarika Chansue, who removed 5kg (11lbs) of coins from the turtle’s stomach in a lengthy operation on 6 March.

Theres not one physical sport where utilization of strength training doesnt come into play and enhance abilities if one chooses to incorporate it.

These guys just dont get it and never will !

The big limey has all the hallmarks of a classic steroid bull. It is dubious that body could be built naturally.

If you can reduce your risk of being knocked out, wouldn't that increase your chances of winning boxing matches?

Lifting huge barbells won't improve ones ability to take a punch, won't improve ones ability to FIGHT, won't improve ones fighting skill. Having bigger muscles is not coorilated in any way with winning fights. Having more fighting skill, speed and endurance to fight long distances is paramount. This size us everything syndrome is what's wrong with hwt boxing today. Just look good, be huge...the easy part and forget skill (the hard part) as becoming a champion is easy with 4-5 ways to achieve that goal.
