The Paret-Griffith tragedy may have been the beginning of the end of turn buckles. Some say Paret was wedged into the corner and couldn't fall. Today the corner padding is designed so a hurt fighter will slide to the floor (besides protecting the fighter's back and head.)

It was Dempsey, who held a lot of clout who reduced the first Tunney fight down to just ten rounds. But then for the rematch Dempsey (seeming to realize his mistake) tried to get (now champion) Tunney to commit to 15 rounds, but Tunney said no thanks.
P.S. Dempsey did admit that if the first fight had been longer he might not have made it to the end, but he felt much better prepared the second time around.
