  • Raging Bull is 95

Happy Birthday to Jake LaMotta who turns ninety five today.

Amazingly LaMotta is the oldest living World Champion.

Giacobbe "Jake" LaMotta (born July 10, 1921) is an American retired professional boxer and former World Middleweight Champion. Nicknamed "The Bronx Bull" and "The Raging Bull", LaMotta was a rough fighter, who although not particularly a big puncher, would subject his opponents to vicious beatings in the ring, with use of constant stalking, brawling and inside fighting, he developed the reputation for being a 'bully', and is often referred to today as a swarmer and a slugger. Due to his style of fighting, LaMotta often got as much as he was giving in an era of great middleweights; with a thick skull and jaw muscles, LaMotta was able to absorb incredible amounts of punishment over the course of his career, and is thought to have one of the greatest chins in boxing history. LaMotta's six fight rivalry with Sugar Ray Robinson is one of the most notable in the sport, with LaMotta winning just one of the bouts, although each one was close and LaMotta dropped Robinson multiple times. LaMotta, who has lived a turbulent life in and out of the ring, was portrayed by Robert De Niro in the 1980 film Raging Bull.

A never-mentioned attribute of ol' Jake is the size of his head. It is the size of a small television set. The next time you watch one of his fights be sure and check out how much larger his head is than any of his opponents. There was plenty of room for a regular sized brain and a thick skull to co-exist.

I would love to see Jake fight Golovkin. Apt to develop into a real fight.

Probably could be top 5 in the middleweight division right now

I get amazed at how many fighters are just mentally gone and cant form coherent sentences. Or at least talk long enough not to sound punchy and he is 95 still ticking and still existing. Some folks just have the DNA man and there is nothing you can do about it.

......."I get amazed at how many fighters are just mentally gone and cant form coherent sentences".

Really? Obviously you've never boxed before or you have and you NEVER get hit!

When you perform for 20+ years in a sport where your concussed multiple times every time you put fight gloves on you will have problems later on in life!
LaMotta is the exception, he also didn't take a lot of abuse other than the Sugar Ray bouts he was actually very good at slipping and not getting hit cleanly.
