Its funny a couple of people have Chavez...Zarukia has him against Mayweather and Panama has him against Duran. I gots to ask: Wouldn't the sweet pea fight answer some of the intrigue about Chavez? I think the Pea took him to the woodshed.

And I think Duran was just better...But I must admit that I tend to underestimate Chavez.

What about Johnson and Dempsey? they almost coulda! The reason this is an intriguing match up is because most supra-knowledgable guys of several generations....from dempsey, a few from before dempsey, all the way up to Ali, intimate that dempsey was the first real modern great heavyweight. Up until relatively modern times many thought Dempsey the best.

I can guarantee that if we went back when some who had seen Johnson ply his trade, weighed in, they would probably have something to say about that. The question boils down to who the first real tehnically dominant, modern, heavyweight was. Could Johnson and his fast hands, fleet feet and technical knowledge match the punching efficiency of Dempsey? Both guys were very good technically...but different in many important ways.

Dempsey first used tight body movements like a bob and weave, to stay on his man, while Johnson fought from sword distance...picking punches off with his own (roy Jones got that from him me thinks). While Johnson relied on closing distance quickly and fast hands, Dempsey was more prone to non telegraphed movements....both guys were more explosive than heavy handed.

Louis would later come along and show how great form on punches, along with proper foot cadence could produce that heavy handed mass transfer that will later become the signature of fighters like Liston and Big George. Louis was so good that he was plenty explosive but he also had weight behind his shots and was always in position....Dempsey by comparison, while not always looking so orthodox when flinging his shots, never had to bring his hand back...he could throw a punch from an inch.

I would like to take Mike Tyson, put him in a ring, then strap a stadium full of ardent nut bags to the spectator seats, and then line up a procession of their favourite bum boxers throughout history so they can watch them be viciously dispatched in mere seconds, one after another

It doesn't matter WHO they are, from Ali, Rocky, Dempsey, Louis etc, all are basically as defenseless as one another vs this calibre of opponent.
