I didn't realise before this thread that he wasn't really a technical trainer.

R.I.P. though the man was an entertaining character in boxing.

Duva knew his stuff, but I don't think he was at that expert level that a nacho Bernstein or Eddie futch..

His passion was greater than his expertise

Watching him try to shove the mouth piece back in the foul pole, good for hysterics in the grand tradition of the New Orleans funeral:

I did not know he passed. May he Rest In Peace.

I met him in 1987 and he was great. Loved boxing fans and went out of his way for people. When he found out I was a boxing fan he called all his fighters over to meet me. That is not what most big people in boxing do. He had a love for his fighters like they were his own kids.

That's actually Al Certo who was in Golota's corner for that fight, not Lou.

It was still hilarious to watch anyway.

"Mami why is that old man smothering that pole." "Now Johnny just watch the boxing match! or ill take away theb xbox!!"

When I was looking for that incident I heard the announcer say "Certa" but to me it looked so much like a younger Duva, and I thought the announcer had it off, then I realized that oldern Italian guys can certainly have a similar appearance.

Al Certo looks very bad after the fact. At the time ok, he didn't know what was going on with Golota. But later his brain injury was revealed and it became clear that Golota probably would have died if he continued to fight. So to see Certo still act like a foul mouthed hothead in an interview later on shows that he doesn't care about his fighters.
