sure you can probably tell me what jack dempsey ate for lunch on october 5th 1925, but if i asked you to describe to me ways a fighter controls distance, you wouldnt know where to start....
At that time I think Dempsey had his restaurant...and if he had his restaurant, it was a steak house...So he probably had steak!

When I was 13 and started martial arts it was one of those real old school places...I walk in and sensei is real polite then tells me he wants to see if I have any skills so we do a class and spar...he beats the snot out or me...I think maybe I did something wrong? But he makes a point of shaking my hand and asking me to please come back again for next class...next three classes the same thing, each time he teaches me another technique and so now I have about 3 techniques and have toughened up a bit. Each time it is incredibly difficult not to panick and use technique but it helps me a bit.

So a few of the advanced students come by and its sparring night. I thought I had toughened up and i get hit with a good shot to the nose and the claret is flowing...I felt like I wanted to run away haha, even though we keep going Its like this feeling of...if my spirit could abandon the body somehow... sheesh!

I think the point is its no joke when you start to appreciate how valuable technique is, and how if you stick with it it can help you. Any fighter who has developed technique under those conditions has my respect. And its a very valuable perspective, along with the others. They compliment each other to a degree.

Theres a consistent pattern on here where the majority of posters have an unbelievable lack of respect for fighters, and a scarce few who have actually trained/fought show proper respect...

no, you are the clown. you've probably never even had a ****ing street fight
Oh yes because Ray Corso is so respectful to fighters isn't he

I've never seen someone in this section be as disrespectful to fighters as he is.

And like I said, you know nothing of my experience in the sport. It's no ones business but mine. That's not why I come to this forum.

Theres a whole world of knowledge that the mere spectator is not privy too, in a sport like boxing.
You would rather take the word of a person who thinks that their word is gospel and if their point is challenged just resorts to insults instead of someone who is willing to debate their point and give their opinions ?.

We come here to debate and learn, that is the reason most of us come to the history section, not too show how big our ****s are.

Because street fights are as we know are the real art of fighting and is the rite a person must pass before becoming a man, more street fights = more boxing knowledge, doesn't matter if there is a chance you could get ****ing stabbed or shot, if you have never been in a street fight you are a clown. The hilarity of a man that has never had the ******ity to get in a street fight never fails too make me laugh.

I can certainly respect a person's desire not to reveal things about what he/she has experienced, but why wouldn't you reveal your experience? I always figured it would be a way to show camraderie. I like to know what my fellow posters have experienced because it lets me know where they are coming from.

It's because the clown has none

Sonnyboy and dan think they are boxing experts when neither could even tell you how to throw a jab, parry it or even shape up. It's laughable and pathetic

Fools like them would b laughed at in boxing gyms

Because unlike you, who actually study boxing from a historical perspective, there are some younger fans who define the best as whoever was currently being hyped by the hit parade! Keep it real and keep up your studies. Be very slow to make all encompassing statements. Have a great day!

                  Ever watch Sanchez vs Gomez?

Many a great...yes great martial artist, boxing trainer, etc has spent time teaching a kid how to throw a jab Sonny. In my own case One of Riley Hawkin's best students taught kids out of a rec center. Riley was so knowlegable that he was asked to teach Okinawan's some of his developments in Okinawan Karate. Yet you don't hear as much about Riley as someone like Chuck Norris.
But what about Van dumm? He could do the full splits on a shaft!

Agreed many great people are never acknowledged.

I live outside of Tokyo, an old area, and there are 90 year old guys teaching various things, pottery, sword making, kendo, paper making and calligraphy, to name a few. Any way, I watch these guys on the weekend do their thing, some of the things I have seen are amazing.

                    Peace out!

Just because you're dumb enough to believe that a guy screaming and shouting about it doesn't mean people who keep things to themselves have had no experience in the sport.

                      Great point!
