Theres a whole world of knowledge that the mere spectator is not privy too, in a sport like boxing.
Watching fights, reading books, autobiographies, boxing magazines, attending boxing shows, discussing boxing, collecting fight-films etc etc. is how a person becomes educated on the history of boxing. Not tutoring some kids how to throw the jab down at the local YMCA...

Once again i ask: How would you know? being only 20yrs of age?

      There fixed it for ya!

Many a great...yes great martial artist, boxing trainer, etc has spent time teaching a kid how to throw a jab Sonny. In my own case One of Riley Hawkin's best students taught kids out of a rec center. Riley was so knowlegable that he was asked to teach Okinawan's some of his developments in Okinawan Karate. Yet you don't hear as much about Riley as someone like Chuck Norris.

i understand what you are saying. But does Riley know how many first round KOs Jack Dempsey had in his career?... or who the tallest boxer to ever fight in the UK was? etc etc etc..

You don't know anything about anyone's experience in the sport.

Why do clowns like you always assume everything?

Just because you're dumb enough to believe that a guy screaming and shouting about it doesn't mean people who keep things to themselves have had no experience in the sport.

What does all this infighting have to do with the original posters question?

Marvin was awesome in that fight but there are middleweights that could have survived his early onslaught such as monzon and robinson. Hearns was stopped suddenly by barkly as well.

You sell yourself short if you think that stuff is important. With today's technology I could pick up my phone and tell you all those answers in this post.

What your type of knowledge does is more than tell me trivia, you synthesize and develop an understanding of boxing based on these facts. My point is that there is room for other types of kowledge and understanding, they all compliment each other.

But I wouldn't want you or anyone else to think that the historical approach is merely based on these curious facts. Even guys like Sugar...who can be very biased at times, wrote a decent book about the history of fighters he considered the best 100.

Barkly and Pryer on any given day could move mountains...I think if Oliver Mccall could have held it together a little more he may have been one of these relatively succesful bad boys!

Translation: I haven't even sparred a round in my life. Because if you had, you'd share it. Its not bragging, its relating experience relevant to the topic at hand...

Theres a consistent pattern on here where the majority of posters have an unbelievable lack of respect for fighters, and a scarce few who have actually trained/fought show proper respect...

no, you are the clown. you've probably never even had a ****ing street fight

See what you fail to grasp is that by having that practical training knowledge, one can make more accurate judgments in regards to fighters, their styles, and their technique...

sure you can probably tell me what jack dempsey ate for lunch on october 5th 1925, but if i asked you to describe to me ways a fighter controls distance, you wouldnt know where to start....
