  • Poorest Footwork, Major Fighter

Every once in a while, an upper level fighters not only has terrible technique but terrible balance because of his footwork, or lack of it. The bad fighters get their feet crossed from time to time. This is very basic, but you still see upper level fighters get their feet crossed. I am sure I have seen Mayorga do this, as well as others I cannot think of right now.

its crazy to think that some guys are talented enough to make it to the top level, while crossing their feet over. when i coach kids i wont even let them spar until they stop doing this.

Apparently it was bad enough to cause McCall to start crying.

Carl Froch has extremely poor footwork.

          And very slow footspeed also.

If i remember correctly, it was Lewis crying after being poleaxed by McCall. McCall went on to make the claim, "Lewis had two left-feet".in his post fight interview.. You are obviously referring to their rematch in 1997 when McCall was only days out of a drug-rehab having had no training or training camp. McCall was in a terrible mental state and psychologically unfit to be taking part in a "Pillow Fight" never mind a World Title boxing fight... But that was typical of Lennox Lewis whole career. His first world title was the "Garbage Belt" he picked out of the trash can, when Rid**** Bowe binned it, He then gets poleaxed by McCall for that title. Lewis then fought Lionel Butler in a Final Eliminator. The same Lionel Butler who had been knocked unconscious in less than 2rds by Rid**** Bowe.. Lewis then won back the "Garbage Belt" in the facical bout against Drug Addict McCall.. Lewis then had two very debatable decision fights with old Evander Holyfield before getting poleaxed a second time by a mediocre journeyman called Hasim Rahman.. Lewis ended his career true to form, by again beating a psychologically ruined Drug-addicted fighter in a facical fight the former champion Mike Tyson, who had spent many years in prison and was only a shell of the fighter he had been when champion 16yrs previously..

On some of these threads I start to become slack jawed....so I go to the mirror and my eyes look like they are really close together and drool is slipping out of my mouth...I chance to look over at the telly where my boy is watching a cartoon (only an hour of watch time allowed) and its hillarious I start laughing and laughing and wondering "whyd da bunny hit the bald guy again?" as I go over to grab a snack m knuckles are sore as hell....cause I am dragging them along the floor...and that Elroy guy starts to make a lot of sense.

Then I put down the Scientific American issue and contemplate "what color was George Washington's white horse?" wishin I could axe that Washinton fellow what color is horsey is...was?

Marciano had terrible footwork but became the leading HW of his generation. He beat some very good fighters, admittedly some of the greater names were past their best but you can only ever beat what is put in front of you. Marciano did just that with probably the worst footwork I have seen in a very high level fighter.
