Usually the best commentators are actual boxers.. Ray Leonard, Ray Mancini, George Foreman, Roy Jones, even Mike Tyson with his encyclopedic knowledge of the history of the sport.. A lot of people seemed to also hate on Merchant but I'd never had a problem with him..

I always thought that Pacheco was rude and arrogant. Never liked him at all. But a single event led me to despise him.

I watched Benn-McClellan live on Showtime. It shouldn't be necessary to recap how that infamous fight went. When McClellan suddenly became unglued, it seemed very obvious to me that something was wrong with him. When he finally folded up for good, Pachecho called him a gutless quitter. So I was ablke detected something irregular having only basic first aid training, but this "fight doctor" was completely oblivious? What an ******.

Jim Watt also considered him a quitter during his commentary, although he subsequently regretted his analysis.

That would be typical of his awesome insights hot from the griddle.
Yes...and its not just that he says them its the way he makes them sound so extraordinary, its kind of funny.

BTW Max Kellerman is another who should impress. he went to a very selective high school in New York City, near my old hood. This school was one of those places that looked for future people who may be special, and are probably many of the guys analyzing various things in covert gov operations, judges, scientists etc. max occasionally shows us a dash of brilliance but its more the Dennis Miller variety (I hate that guy!) than the real deal. Just an interesting aside.

All of the prior mentioned in this thread are nothing to complain about compared to Mauro Ranallo...I literally cringe every time he speaks. I wish showtime would get rid of him.

There are few people I have ever seen that are as unnatural on tv as Max Kellerman, he is pure cringe. His timing during his commentary is little better, I really don't know why HBO think he is any good.

All time worst by a mile is Ferdie Pacheco though.
On showtime he was awful. Can't argue with that pick. Condescending, rude, arrogant, confused, he was all four.

They use him for boxing too? Geez, as if he isn't bad enough doing MMA. No commentators have annoyed me too much really, but I don't like the biased ones either. Lampley and Stewart was it? Still liked Ste***** breakdown of a fight. What about the guys on Premier Boxing Champions? They seem okay. I don't like Malinaggi either. I actually like Kellerman. Wasn't Max Kellerman also the character Jack Weston played in Dirty Dancing?

Wasn't Pacheco used for a lot of Chavez fights on Showtime too or pay per view maybe? And what makes you say that about Atlas? How has he been boorish or hypocritical? I haven't heard much of him.

Dennis Miller, what a hack. Is he supposed to be funny, or what? His voice cracks almost every word. Can you imagine going to an O'Reiley-Miller show? I think Kellerman is one of the best speakers since Daffy Duck. He does have passion going for him. I do not dislike him.
