I've seen a handful of his fights on YT dude was a madman, fighters I'd compare to him in current terms/style Kassim Ouma/James Kirkland.

Those who followed boxing back in the 80s surely knows the animal. One of the most entertaining fighters of his time. Guaranteed action.

Frank was a good fighter to watch.Would have loved to see him fight Dwight Davidson, Mustafa Hamsho, or the overhyped Tony Ayala jr.

I remember "The Animal" very well, a true warrior and an action fighter.
He had a string of wars that he won by sheer willpower ... but he was just short of getting that title shot he so deserved. No way he beats Marvelous Marvin, but he merited the chance (and the payday).
He was kind of a victim of the unified title -- had there been two middleweight champs at the time he would have likely been given the opportunity at one or the other because he would have been a good TV attraction for it after all those televised wars and he's the kind of guy people would have paid to see if it was contested in Atlantic City, especially.
And I also remember Vampire Johnson, actually saw him fight live down here in Alabama headlining a club show, won a workmanlike 10-round decision. Alas, no coffin as that was a gimmick only for his "bigger" fights designed to get him on TV. He was a Pete Susens fighter, part of a stable that included Harold Brazier and Slammin' Sammy Nesmith.
Looking at his record, I can't for the life of me figure out what 10-round beating he took -- he was KO'd by Beast Mugabi and his decision losses were competitive. There's one for an Indiana state title that the Boxrec scores say were along the 97-93/96-94 lines where he might have been competitive ealry and then taken a beating, against then-undefeated Carlos Tite, which could have been on ESPN maybe.
Two colorful guys, obviously.

Tex Cobb was another of this ilk. Went a long way through toughness and detrmination. Not a bad kickboxer either. Managed to get a payday through Holmes and had a few movies as well.
Tex was quite intelligent despite his image...His description of the Holmes drubbing he took was suprisingly insightful, though it escapes me at the moment. Tex had to have decent technique because alas.....he had no speed to speak of, could not do much in the way of footwork. Sort of plodded along with good punch selection and a first class beard. Very entertaining fighter.

my only memories of fletcher are him getting knocked out cold by roldan and annihilated by mugabi. based on this thread that seems unfair to him, i'll have a look at some other fights of his and see what he really had. considering what i read i can see how his style wouldnt exactly benefit him fighting guys like roldan and mugabi.
