in my biased opinion I rank him number 1. He didn't have the best career of all time and I don't think head to head he beats Robinson at 147. I do think p4p at his best he ranks number 1.
My reasons:
He jumped up a weight class back when weight classes had meaning (135-147 different sized men) and beat a top 5 welterweight of all time, in sugar ray leonard.
He had a devastating run at light weight lost only once and avenged it with 2 knockouts.
jumped weight and beat another HoF in Carlos Palomino, dominated him.
Lost a close decision to possibly the best MW of all time to date, Marvin Hagler, especially considering Hagler was stopping everyone. This is a man who's prime was at 135.
These are the key points of his career that make his best seem to be the best. Ali in his first career however seemed p4p unbeatable as well, Robinson at WW is a monster...the argument for Ali is the oponents at HW aren't as good p4p as the WW division, and the argument against SRR is the WW division is deep and stacked, does he truly beat them all? (styles). At LW I'd pick Duran over anyone including Whitaker, at 140 in great shape I'd pick him over anyone, at 147 at his best I'd pick him over almost anyone besides Robinson, Hearns....might end there, I'd take him over Armstrong, Pac and Floyd.
