Brisco hurt him badly but never dropped him.

Valdez dropped him with a single shot.

Certainly the only guy during Monzon's championship reign to drop him. According to boxrec Monzon had been down in 1966 against Jorge Jose Fernandez (another puncher who was probably one of the better fighters never to become world champion during the 60s) and in 1964 against a Felipe Cambeiro (I know nothing about him). So Valdez was first man to drop Monzon in 11 years.

Yes, Clancy trained both Valdez and Emile Griffith. The fighters were stable mates.

Griffith on undercard and yes that is Clancy, he was Valdez's trainer.
