  • Roy Jones winning a HW title.

How significant would you say Roy Jones going up from MW to winning a title at HW is? Sure, it's a good accomplishment, but look at who he beat to get it. He beat Ruiz, a relatively small, feather-fisted HW. He also won the trinket WBA belt, and not the lineal HW championship, like Fitzsimmons and Spinks did against Corbett and Holmes, respectively.

Just as your description suggests, it was impressive but not as impressive as what Fitzsimmons and Spinks did in terms of the level of the heavyweights they beat. But Jones gets extra credit for starting at a much lower weight and simply being a much smaller guy overall.

There are some very impressive attributes regarding Jones. There are some very impressive wins by Jones. None of either category above....attribute nor resume, were affected by Jones jump up. It was indeed bs and nothing more comparing Jones fighting a slow dry humper like Jawney and comparing that to men who really made a dent on the heavyweight division from the nether weights.

Good accomplishment, but not that impressive considering it was Ruiz

Ruiz had one distinction though: He was the only heavyweight of whom it can be said, his second, Stoney, threw more punches than Jawney!

I don't think many are going to argue with me that beating Holmes and Corbett for the lineal HW championship is more impressive than beat Ruiz for a trinket belt.

it was impressive in terms of size but in terms of reality, not quite as impressive as other moves up in weight. But it adds to RJJs legacy, if only he had stayed at heavyweight and had that fight with Tyson like everyone wanted.

It was impressive but even more impressive that he went BACK DOWN to 175 and won the titles after beating Ruiz.

I don't agree with this at all. I think Roy believed this... Ruiz was not in himself anything more than a mark for Roy. He wasn't very good, so what did it matter? It was a trinket belt at that.
