ok watch holmes vs shavers (prime holmes vs fading shavers)
then watch shavers vs ali (prime shavers, fading ali)

in round two shavers lands several hard rights to alis face i thought alis head was gonna get ripped off, but he styayed upright and held then preceded to deck him for the rest of the fight

occasio and weaver both staggered holmes neither were great punchers; the only people whjo have staggered ali have been extremely heavy hitters

IMO ali had the best chin of any fighter ever, some say hagler or mercer was better but i don't think so!!!

Holmes, however had the best recovery of any fighter with the possible exception of holyfield he would get knocked down, get up unsteady and jab his way back

holmes ali would defiantely be a test for ali but i think ali would take it

How can u say Ali had a better chin then Hagler wen Hagler never went down or appeared seriously hurt. I understand the fact that Ali fought and took the best shots against some of the hardest punchers ever, but its a strange comparison.

Hager of course took Hearns best shots, and although he held on for a brief moment never looked really hurt.
Apart from that Hagler didnt face punchers that could compare to Shavers or Foreman, so its difficult to compare their chins.

Ali is certainly more than capable of beating any heavyweight in history, theroetically of course, and i've seen it mentioned on this thread that Holmes had a better chin than Ali!!! Sorry but that is absolute BS. When did Ali ever get knocked spark out? prime or no prime! Seemingly out on his feet against Cooper, yes, but he got up, and despite the extra time, he recovered. and won! Frazier knocked him over with a shot great enough to have put the majority of other heavyweights to sleep, but Ali got up, and that punch was possibly the deciding factor in his first fight with Frazier. Ernie Shavers and George Foreman were two of the hardest punchers in heavyweight history and couldn't knock Ali out when IMO he was past his best. Larry Holmes couldn't knock the ageing shadow of Muhammad Ali out, but i get the feeling that maybe he didn't want to do that. Theoretically, in his prime would Mike Tyson have knocked out a past his prime Ali? I'm not sure, but he knocked out Larry Holmes.
Prime Tyson would spark an old ass Ali for sure! Id say even the Ali that beat Foreman with relative ease, u just cant lay on the ropes with Iron mike! Ive bn watching Ali and Holmes fights today and to be fair there aint much in it chin wise. But il say this if Shavers connected with the punch that dropped Holmes on Ali he woulda went down too! Can i ask u sumit, how do U rate greatness? By accomplishments and stats or do u take each fighter in ur mind and pit them against each other? Just curious before i name my number 1

hagler never faced the kind of punchers ali faced in fact i can;'t think of many that did

i don't recall hearns landing his best beautiful right cross on haglers chin, i could be very wrong here it has been a while!
anyway ali has a great chin!

ali wouldn't have had too much trouble with iron mike

at long range ali would circle him jabbing occasionally ploughing a cross in there this makes it hard for tyson to get inside

as tyson gets inside ali will hit him on the way in and clinch he may take a punch or two but it would take a sustained assault even from tyson to take ali down. alis strength makes clinching tyson easy!

ali would also play with tyson psychologically

Watching Ali Frazier 2 the other day, i was amazed at how fast his hands were. We all know Ali was fast, but after his lay off he is always said to be slower. Im not sure if he lost any hand speed.

I could see him laying some big flurries on Tyson, and tying him up. Frustrating the **** outa him.

I can see Ali meeting Tyson head on at the beginning, the same way he did Frazier and Liston. Then later on wen Tyson was less energetic he could dance and use his jab effectively.
