What fight, had the outcome been different, would have had the most impact on boxing?

I don't know that Liston would have gotten another title shot if he'd blown it against Patterson.

Well I based this on Patterson getting the first shot at Ali, even though he had been flattened twice by the same guy that Ali had just stopped twice. Even with a Patterson loss (which admittedly is damn hard to envision), who was there to be a more appealing opponent? All of the 50's heavyweights were past their primes and took turns beating each other. Ali was the only really top heavyweight developed in the early 60's, unless you want to count sleep inducing Ernie Terrell.

Is there a universe, a possible probable outcome in another time line....a logical possibility so remote.....as to consider Patterson beating Liston?

If Bowe had not been "bowed" by Golata I predict we would have had more little Rid****'s running around....One of those little Bowe's a product of big Bowe's undamaged testicles which have not been pounded by Golata, has a ken for the sweet science, Ko's both Klit brothers in the same day and is presently, or rather would be Puliv's worse nightmare!

The first one that I thought of was what if the ref stopped the Cooper-Ali match. Ali probably still would have went on to be champion but it would have been different.

I think it'd be a carbon copy of Joe Louis' first loss. It would only make Ali stronger and go on to achieve everything he did later on. He'd still max out his greatness, if you will.

I doubt it, but what about one where Tyson beats Douglas?
