He waited for Hagler to decline enough. The evidence was there in the Roldan & the Mugabi fights. hagler had declined enough for Leonard to beat him... and he still didn't do it IMO. Hagler inflicted more damage.

Yeah I know, that's the thing I don't like about that win. Sure Leonard was rusty and had only fought in 1984 before that, but would've been better if he could've beaten a better or prime Hagler is my point. Still a pretty good win IMO though.

Here we go again about Hagler being past his prime.

Leonard had not fought for 3 years prior to facing Hagler, and had only ONE fight for the 5 years leading up to Hagler.

On top of that he was moving up in weight as well. So he had a ton of ring rust, 5 years of inactivity, moving up in weight and had his own aging to overcome.

If anybody was past it and had a ton of adversity to overcome it was Leonard, not the undisputed, very active champion(12 title defenses) who was 62-2 and had not lost a fight in 11 years.

        And Leonard still won.

None of that has to do with Hagler being past prime.

He definitely was. He didn't look great against Roldan or Mugabi. He had turned into a slugger and abandoned a lot of the qualities & attributes that made him a great fighter. His punching sharpness was off, his jab wasn't there, his counter punching was gone.

Leonard certainly wasn't in his prime anymore either, and he had declined, but Leonard was not ******. He saw the Roldan and Mugabi fights live, he knew what was up. Leonard admits doing this with the second Duran fight as far as catching a guy at the right time.

            Haters........

Haters will hate, man. There is nothing they can do to change history, because it's already been made. Everyone wants to make excuses but the truth is, Leonard outboxed, outsmarted, and out fought Hagler, just like he would've done Robinson. Robinson was somewhat robotic in the way he fought. Leonard was a hybrid compared to him.

^^You used your opinion, I used facts to back up my argument.

Without a doubt, it is beyond silly and biased to discredit Leonard by saying Hagler was past his prime without even acknowledging Leonard's adversity. There is now way anybody can claim Hagler had more to overcome than Leonard, and that is the main reason most people consider that win one of the best wins in Boxing.

Again I must stress that Leonard had 5 years of inactivity and ring rust to overcome as well as moving up to MW in his early 30s, with a style that required as much youth as possible to be succesfull. Against an undisputed Middle weight champion riding on an 11 year unbeaten streak and 12 defenses.

It's just irrational to discredit Leonard in that manner in this case.

Robinson in his 24th year as a pro loosing to Stan Harrington in Harrington home base, twice inside 2 months, is as good as Leonard winning over "Donny LaLonde".

Robinson goes to Hawawii for a two month "vacation" boxing tuff Stan Harrington and loosing to Stan a fellow who was a solid fighter with wins over top notch contenders but who needed some monitorial help and got it from Robinson coming there and fighting him TWICE!
The fans in Hawawii were thrilled just see Robinson let alone watch him go 10 twice! He was not the prime Robinson but fans don't care because they KNOW he's not prime!
Not only are the greats from the past greater than the men now so were the fans hahahaha!!!!
Well now that the best parts of the site has these jerks who actually think Mayweather or Leonard are the greatest welters or fighters ever its time to get scarce around here.

Try and learn something Scot545321 Robinson is considered by "people in the sport" not fans to be the number ONE welter & middle of all time.
If you knew anything about techniques and skill levels along with heart & desire you'd agree. However your a dumb azz fan who thinks with his heart and must wipe the brown off his nose daily.

What I forgot you'll never know!

Good luck Rockin' with these kids, I had no plans to discuss what was my business with fans. I thought boxing people would be in the training and history sections to discuss boxing not who could beat who BS!
                  good luck Ray Corso
