List the Best Light Heavyweights from 1950s-1969

From the beginning of 50 through the 60s I think these were the best men.

Maxim
Moore
Johnson
Pastrano
Tiger
Torres
Foster

all of them came to win and were competitive boxers. It was not weak!!

Very good list a lot of different style's Johnson was highly respected when he was competing and is somewhat forgotten now which is a shame.

How can you possibly have **** Tiger above Harold Johnson at LHW?

How can you have Torres or Maxim above him either?

I would have johnson higher IMO... What do you like about maxim and Torres that you prefer them over tiger and johnson

Lookin back at it, I guess Johnson could get a nod above Maxim, his wins over Charles and even Satterfield are to be proud of. But I think the fact that Johnson got the LHW title on a technicality has always rubbed me up the wrong way, then again maybe I don't know enough about the situation, did Moore simply refuse to fight him? What actually happened there, were there any negotiations? Contracts? A duck?

But Torres is Torres man, terrific fighter, great skill, soooo good to watch and there is a lot more of him to watch too and let's not forget wins over guys like Pestrano, Cotton, Olson, Fullmer, heck that's one hell of a resume. How Torres can be ranked below Johnson is the question.

Johnson and Moore fought each other 5 times in one of the greatest rivalries in LHW history.

Moore won 4 and Johnson won 1 but all were close fights other than the 5th one where Johnson was dominating before he was stopped late.

Johnson has wins over Moore, Charles, Maxim, Pastrano (Robbed), Lytell and many many other Top 10 ranked contenders.

But Torres is Torres man, terrific fighter, great skill, soooo good to watch and there is a lot more of him to watch too and let's not forget wins over guys like Pestrano, Cotton, Olson, Fullmer, heck that's one hell of a resume. How Torres can be ranked below Johnson is the question.

Torres being ahead of Harold Johnson is a joke. He lost twice to an aged Tiger who never weighed 170 in his entire career. His win over journeyman Eddie Cotton was a robbery too. Other than his win over Pastrano, his whole career lacks any major highlights.

Hardly a weak era! Then you have guys like Pastrano and Satterfield, always dangerous. A young Floyd Patterson was around too and he knocked the stuffing out of Moore (at heavyweight though)

Not sayings it was a horrible era, just that over the 2 decades, a lot of good fighters, but seemed to be top heavy.. Always a stud or 2 at the top, but compared to some other eras, it doesn't quite have the depth..

Agreed plus Johnson beat a better version of Pastrano aswell.

The Moore and Johnson title defences in the late 50s and early 60s were of a fairly poor quality though. Moore's best defences occurred in the early 50s (Johnson, Maxim, Olson).
