Being owned by a major boxing promoter makes it lose its credibility. It is the epitome of a conflict of interests.

Yet it's awarded other promoter's fighters numerous awards. People are reading too much into this.

Since I don't read that publication, I have no fuel for a debate. But I am certain that any magazine owned by a promoter has no credibility.

If you ask twenty different posters, you would get twenty different rankings. Unfortunately magazines, like websites and the rest of us have different opinions on who should be where. Magazines like the sanctioning bodies can be influenced by promoters and fighters so their opinion is even less creditable.

Why is this even allowed? Shouldn't something like this be illegal? You'd think an objective party would be the one(s) doing the rankings.

No because they are true lineal champions.

Here are TBR's current lineal champs:

                  HW: Wladimir Klitschko
                  LHW: Adonis Stevenson
                  SMW: Andre Ward
                  MW: Sergio Martinez
                  JMW: Floyd Mayweather
                  JWW: Danny Garcia
                  JFW: Guillermo Rigondeaux
                  FLY: Akira Yaegashi
What does TBR stand for though? And if their rankings are more credible, shouldn't they be the ones giving out title belts like The Ring does?

No. It means that the tag 'Ring Magazine Champion' is devalued.

Nothing illegal about a promoter owning a magazine. Ring's supposed powers were always more in concept rather than any reality. Both Ring and Golden Boy are private companies and are entitled to do business. The only debate is the publications credibility and importance. Now if Ring was doing something like charging sanctioning fees, that would be a different story.
