    From the sport of boxing, referring to fighter who is too stunned to fight effectively, but who does not collapse to the canvas.

    (standing erect but not consciously aware or only minimally aware).

      My favourite has to be round 11 from Ali vs Frazier 1. How the hell Ali stayed on his feet is amazing.....he was wobbling from pillar to post. Some refs would have stopped that fight in that round!

          It seems like just heart and fighting spirit keeps them up and going or gets them to get up because if you notice, when a ref doesn't bother counting when a fighter is down and looks out, he doesn't move for a while, but if the ref does start counting, you see him try to get up, which usually leads to a stoppage anyway if the fighter is really out of it or a stoppage shortly later after taking a few more shots on his feet. Same goes for if a fighter is stopped on their feet, sometimes when it's called by the ref, they then slump down on the canvas, as if to say now I can finally relax, it's over.

              Trinidad at the end of a round vs hopkins . I recall merchant saying " Trinidad is out on his feet!"
