The UK press had various fits about how good and dangerous Ruddock was and he was largely considered to be the man who might expose Lennox. At that point in Lennox's career there were still doubters and he was not universally popular or accepted as a British fighter.

The Ruddock win - which was epic - changed all that. It certainly has to be the best Commonwealth heavweight fight of all time!

True, they hyped him up as superman, and most were expecting Lennox to lose, and yes, many were calling it, 'the Canadian hvwt championship'

Yes Razor was very hyped during his time before the Louis fight. People just collectively sort of developed an amnesiac condition in which it was forgotten that Razor was for all practical purposes a one armed, slow fighter with a great chin and a bit of inside fighting ability. Even at that time by comparison Louis was a chess player...a fighter who could exploite and train for specific comp he would face in the ring. He knew exactly how to deal with Ruddock.
