Mr. Witherspoon....wobbled like a vast Raspberry Jelly every time Frank B hit him but still left London with the WBC belt. Looked like the big bloke down the pub who liked his pints and bar snacks....fought a whole lot better.

Spoon was in pitiful condition for that fight. The poor performance by Bruno made me give up any hope for him being an elite heavyweight.

they weren't always chubby, but roberto duran is one of the very best of all time, and james toney is in a lot of top 100's. tony was particularly round at 200 and HW.

Despite what he lacked in natural talent and stamina, Bruno was the best physically conditioned hwt of the 80's..
Tubbs, Spoon, Page, Tate, Dokes were all a bit fat imo..

Buster Douglas, Rid**** Bowe, George Foreman, Ray Mercer, Larry Holmes were all chubby/fat at some stage during the 90's
2000's - Toney, Peter, Areola, Tua, and John McDermot all come to mind, most of them not particularly successful though.

@Scott9445......fair point, the British press had an absolute field day when Tim rolled into Heathrow looking like the fat, darts-player Jocky Wilson and although I was just a kid at the time I can recall how they focussed on the fact that he was not prepared to take off his T-Shirt when he was sparring. But the 'Spoon was also a helluva fighter and Bruno did finally get to the very top as well. Just imagine what a happy, disciplined Tim could have done.

Another top-class, heavyweight chubster (maybe mentioned already) was Samil Sam. Definitely not in Tim's league; but the boy could fight and clearly did not hold back on the mezze snacks judging by his waistline and many chins.

I'm assuming no one's saying Butterbean because you don't consider him "successful"?

Although anyone that weighs 350lb and can go 4 3 minute rounds of professional boxing gets my vote of respect, successful or not.
