I've always been pretty consistent in giving Hagler only one of the first six rounds (the fifth) and have never seen any reason to give Leonard the twelfth, which always seemed like an obvious coasting job to me (I hate it when fighters do this in extremely close fights.) The times I have scored this fight usually result in an even fight or a one point win for Leonard.

I don't have a problem with the way you have scored these rounds. I think it's the epitome of a fight without any sort of 'correct' score.

I have scored this fight many times,,

i always felt SRL won rounds 1-4

        hagler the 5th

SRl rallied and stole the 6th

        hagler won 7,8

        SRL rallied and stole 9

        Hagler 10, 11

        SRL rallied and stole 12

SRL 115-113 every time I score it,,

I could also see a draw being possible if you give the 9th to hagler

im ok with either guy ahead by no more than 2 points. I said over n over again, if not for Guerra's card, this fight is not completely forgotten but easier forgotten. draw or close win for either fighter is something the public woulda learned to live with by now. u know? someone gave leonard the 12th but I gave it to hagler since right at the end he drilled ray with that one shot where u could almost see haglers fist comin out the opposite side of ray's head. both great fighters n leonard fought the verysmartest fight he possibly could in there. close fight either way

Did you get Ray Leonard's permission before you handglided with Hagler's scrotum?

IIRC it belongs to him via 115-113 Leonard :wank:

Famously of course, if his team hadn't have objected to Harry Gibbs officiating, who was eventually replaced by Guerra, he would have taken the decision.

I've read that the objection was placed because of what Hagler was subjected to in the aftermath of the Minter bout (in which incidentally, Guerra had acted as a judge). They apparently felt that for whatever reason Gibbs was less than likely to give Hagler a fair shout. The fact that Gibbs officiated the Hearns bout though throws that explanation into doubt for me. Can anyone shed light on this?

Personally I've always scored this fight for Leonard. I can understand the case for scoring the fight for Hagler, but I don't agree with it. He allowed himself to be out hustled. I don't buy that he retired solely due to the disgust that he felt for the decision either. Whether he consciously allowed himself to acknowledge it or not, some of that disgust must have been aimed at himself.

Yes, some of it was probably aimed at himself, but Hagler tried to get a rematch with Leonard before retiring.

To be fair. I'm not sure how Gibbs' score was released but I've always thought he may have been bitter at Hagler and his team not allowing him to officiate so released a score for Hagler to send a massive **** YOU to Marvin.

Hagler hints at retirement after the Mugabi fight in the post-fighter interview. He says something like "Will you miss me when I'm gone?" and it's sort of implied that it's nearing the end for him. I'm certain that he was losing motivation for the sport and even said: 'It's hard to get up at 6am in the morning when you wear silk pyjamas." I've read reports of him having back trouble and other physical issues leading up to the Mugabi fight as well.

He definitely would have been disgusted at himself for allowing it to get to the point where he could have lost a decision. He would have been disgusted at his own arrogance and ego as well. These were things that ultimately cost him the fight.
