Are there any other similar documentaries worth watching, that talk about particular fights like this? I did see Assault in the Ring which I thought was great.

I also like the bowe-golata one,,,, that was just a wild sequence of events in 96,,

I remember watching live with my dad, the first fight when the riot broke out,,, that was the moment that i realized that boxing is not like other sports,,,, Its more spectacle and flash, and craziness than other sports,,,

Since this is the Boxing History thread, I think some of you guys will dig this (if you haven't already seen it). It's a very well-done documentary about the old legend Freddie Welsh. This is about as unique as it gets.

It's OK for what it is but it's had a terrible influence as far as actually "informing" the uninformed. You could really dedicate an entire thread to the number of myths, half-truths and outright bullsh^t that it's spewed.

if you haven't seen it, the documentary Joe Louis: America's Hero Betrayed can make anyone a believer of his ability. Breaks down how he got to getting a title and beating all the ex-champions and goes through to Ezzard Charles and Rocky Marciano. it skips over Sharkey though, but it's no big loss. it's on youtube right now.

Shouts out to Jack Johnson too, and his overall impact which the bio. does give the impression Johnson didn't break as many barriers as it appears. Yes he's the first black heavyweight champion, but there was no rush to get another black man a title shot after how the public reacted to Jack.

The whole "Leonard ducked Pryor" thing is a good example of the myths being spread.

the Pryor-Arguello Legendary Nights straight up says that and doesn't have Leonard comment, despite him being on the show.

Some guy literally said "i dont wanna say nothing..but i heard leonard move up to get away from Aaron pryor!" So he could fight Thomas Hearns and Roberto Duran? Ok then.

Check your time lines GZ. By the time Pryor would have even been considered as a worthy opponent(around Arguello 1), Leonard was already retired with a detached retna. And by the time Leonard returned to challenge Hagler at middleweight Pryor was through as a force.
