What about Evander Holyfield, would Hagler knock him out???????????...Would any of the opponents of Marvin Hagler even stand a chance of beating Roy Jones, James Toney or BHop ????? Get real before claiming a comment to be garbage.lol
Who cares if Hagler could beat Ruiz or any of those guys? What does that say of Hagler as a middleweight?

Sugar Ray Seales could hardly see daylight when Hagler beat him. Caveman Lee, Monroe, Watts & Colbert were not Championship caliber fighters... Tony Sibson was nothing better than European Level and Juan Domingo Roldan (floored Hagler) was deliberately thumbed out of the fight.. Marvin Hagler was a good fighter but thats all. Ray Leonard kicked his ass after nearly 5yrs out of the ring.. Sugar Ray Robinson, Roy Jones Jr. James Toney, Bernard Hopkins would have very little trouble taking care of Marvin Hagler."
Lets start with Hopkins having "no trouble" with Hagler? Seriously? Your dreaming!
Ray Leonard "kicked his ass" again you "dream alot" no one thinks Leonard kicked Haglers azz!
Dirty tactics? This is pro championship boxing everything is legal until the ref says NO!
My point wasn't to grade out the opposition sinplty state they all came to fight! Hagler made his manditories then also so where you get the under sized BS is on you. They all stepped up to earn the money and they all grew out of the division they were in.
Leonards "win" was calculating as all hell he let Hagler fight on at his end then came out of "hiding" to run for the distance. Plenty of people give the bout to Hagler, because in those times you had to "TAKE" the title not run and play tag to get it!
All of the men I mentioned were top twenty-five guys and all I mention never had a problem with a promoter not using them. They came from the live show era and that metal has been deflated in these times. Another words they "earned" their rep the hard way. Briscoe Monroe and Seales would be Champions today, easily!
Ray.
Sugar Ray Leonard easily beat Marvin Hagler. To claim different is deluding oneself. 5yrs out of the sport, yet returning to defeat a match-fit champion is what Ray Leonard done. I can remember Ray Leonard's comments at the pre-fight press conferences. "Marvin Hagler don't scare me, I am taller than him, bigger than him, faster than him and a far better boxer than him".. Ray Leonard exposed Hagler as a limited plodding bully. To claim Hagler beat Leonard is farcical on you. Hagler barley won a single round, he was out-boxed the entire fight and lost by a landslide. Had Leonard fought Hagler 5yrs earlier he may have won via stoppage.
Hagler could have and should have done what all great middleweight champions do, and that is move up and fight for the Light-Heavyweight Championship. Dwight Braxton, Matthew Saad Muhammad & Michael Spinks would all have gladly taken him on.. But Marvin the Bully did not fancy his chances, he chose to fight Lightweight Great Roberto Duran (How many Lightweight Champions have won the 160lb title) Duran lost a razor-thin decision by a single point, shouting over to Hagler as they awaited the judges decsion, "You ain't No Marvelous"...
Good Fortune is the reason Hagler is held in high esteem today, that good fortune came the night he fought Thomas Hearns. Hearns broke his famous right hand in the opening round and would have won via TKO3 due to the damge(cuts) suffered by Hagler, who would not have been allowed to continue more than another round.... Hearns pushed for a rematch with Hagler right up to the day Marvin retired, but Hagler knew what lay in store for him had he accepted.
I have met Hagler, Leonard, Duran & Hearns over the last 5yrs. At various evenings they were speakers. They all tell it like i have stated above.

I don't think that SRL landed enough clean hard shots to be called a clear-cut winner let alone that he dominated Hagler.

I know almost everything there is possible to know about the careers of both Hagler & Lewis. They fought their career's when i was in my 20/30s i have all the magazines from that period like Ring, Boxing News, Boxing Monthly, KO Magazine. I seen both fight live`during their championship reign's. i have most of their fights on video.. So to call my comments "Shameless Agenda" is laughable.. you i guess would not even have been a twinkle in your daddy's eye back in the 1980s . which is why you cannot post anything constructive to this debate. You are only a child who's knowledge of this sport spans all of the last 3 or 4yrs..

Would Jones, Toney & BHop take 10rds to KO Marcos Geraldo or 8rds to KO Fully Obel ?
What about 11rds to beat John Mugabi ? Gerald McClellan done it in the opening round...
Marvin Hagler was a very good fighter and great middleweight champion. But in my opinion he was NOT a Top 10 All Time Middleweight Champion.. (which is a different topic) ... This subject is "Best resume in boxing history".. Marvin Hagler most certainly does not hold claim to that title.

sonybys2 ....."You are unable to respond to my brilliant analysis"'
seriously brillant?................
please stop my stomach hurts from laughing!
Your welcome to your opinion and I must ask if you know so much who was your trainer and what gym were you a member of?
What events were you at to meet Hagler? You were in Italy?
Seriously are you elroys "lost" cousin nimerod?
You started off alright but the "hate guys" always are proven to be fanboys.
Fanboys know NOTHING about the sport their to busy to learn anything because Hating takes up all their time.
This is really getting repetitive and boring.
Ray.
