  • ATGs who look completely weird/strange in their style, almost amateurish

There are certain fighters who look totally strange inside the ring because of their style or because of their footwork or because of the way they move their body. Even some ATG fighters are like that in my opinion.

    I will give 3 examples:

Rocky Marciano with his crouching style looks completely weird and kinda unorthodox and even amateurish. But he is HIGHLY effective.
Another example was always Joe Louis for me. The way he looked, the way he threw punches. As strange as it sounds but he always looked very slow to me both on his feet and with his hands. If I didn't know it is Joe Louis I would say he is a beginner.
Then we have Vitali Klitschko: very unorthodox style with both hands down, using his distance to his opponent as defense. He looks totally strange the way he moves, but like Louis and Marciano, he is highly effective both in winning rounds and knocking people out.

Any other examples from you guys?

Carl Froch - often carries his hands low, quite slow on his feet and not exactly fluid. In fact I think he is a fighter who is the opposite of textbook and does just about everything wrong yet he is extremely effective!
Pulls back with his chin in the air. He has a lot of flaws.

Hes strong as an ox, heavy handed, greatly conditioned and has the strongest of wills and that is about it. I'm sure he has other decent attributes (great chin, strong jab) but it just goes to show that sometimes the will to win can get you so far.

ill probably get linched for this but pacquiao, the way he drops his hands and lunges in is very surprising many more of what marquez done hasn't happened more often, his defence is also amateurish,i love the guy dearly but you gotta tell it how it is sometimes and his style is very amateurish

Spinks had a very awkward style... certainly not "amateurish"by any means, but very awkward and difficult for opponents to adapt to... one of the many reasons nobody was able to beat him, except for his last fight against Tyson which means absolutely nothing.

Tommy Loughran is a fighter who I've spent years studying, and to a great extent copying in my own career. His style was extremely unorthodox; whereas the 45-degree stance is almost universal, Loughran used a stance similar to a fencer. I've found that it can be extremely effective defensively, and Loughran obviously is an ATG legend.

Froch fights similar like Vitali style wise

Fitzsimmons doesn't look good on tape to me but has one of the ATG resumes.

Greb doesn't look very good with the tape we have but we of course can't take much from that, for obvious reasons.

              I agree.

Pacqauio obviously does some things very well but he also does a few things in a very "Amatuerish" way, or more so "Not the right way" if you know what I mean. He's sloppy at times.

Very effective though, might not be the "right" way but who's to say what's right or wrong if it get's the job done?

If you're effectively awkward....you can be a total nightmare for most fighters. No one trains to fight guys who are doing the wrong thing but make it work.

Yes, though effective, Marciano often looked clumsy and amateurish, and so does Vitali... but Louis? The way he threw punches... are you serious??

That was my reaction as well.
