  • Was Tyson really any good without Rooney?

Just wondering how other here felt about post Kevin Rooney. Did King and maybe Robin/Mom mess up a good thing by breaking the special chemistry Rooney and Tyson once had? Was Iron Mike ever really the same?

    Just asking

    Good. Not great.

But the difference is overstated. He wasn't going to be the GOAT regardless.

Tyson was still pretty useful without Rooney, but not quite what he was.

His head movement, body punching, combination work and distance stamina suffered over time.

The difference is NOT overstated at all. Tyson with Rooney = Great and a serious challenge to any ATG Tyson post Rooney was simply not the same fighter.

My opinion has always been that Tyson would have gone down the same path with or without Rooney. At that point Tyson's ego was so huge he wasn't going to listen to anyone. Rooney's reputation benefited from being fired at Tyson's peak.

At his best with Cus and Teddy working his corner, I actually think that Roach could have helped Tyson alot but Mike was not the same by the time Freddy had a chance.
His best corner was Teddy and Me hahaha thats right every time I worked his corner there was NO second round!!! Can't get any better, Right? Ray

Tyson certainly got worse when all of those loser "friends" of his like Halloway and Horn started becoming more prominent. Two worst sycophants in history of man.

They were there because Mike could tell them what to do! He had no one to answer to once the real crew was broken up. There was atleast 5 men who could have stepped in to train and handle him but it would have been all about hard work and I think he was looking for an easier way by then. Ray

I was going to say the same thing. Tyson's downfall was self imposed. And this would have happened with or without Rooney who's importance is greatly exaggerated in my opinion.

Tyson didn't have the discipline or mind set to go further than he did.

It's shocking to know that those idiots didn't even have inswell in the corner when Tyson fought Douglas. I still don't know what that was they used for Tyson's eye. It looked like a cross between a water balloon and a condom.
