It depends on how you look at it but I say no, the man went on to win two more world titles, back when a world title ment something. He won a fight of the year vs Barkley and gave Hagler all types of problems in there fight. He should have quit after the Barkley fight if you ask me.

Whether he should've retired or not, I'll leave for others to debate, but without the "no mas" blackeye to his record, he might have challenged Sugar Ray Robinson as the universally recognized greatest fighter of all time. Still, not giving Leonard a rematch after such a close fight would've tainted his legacy. Only death after Montreal would've sealed his fate for the #1 spot. Had he retired after capturing his 4th. title from Barkley - even with the New Orleans debacle - he would've redeemed himself for the #2 spot.

I wholehardly agree he may have challanged robinson for ultimate pound for pound with out no mas. We are talking about a fighter who only had one loss which was avenged twice in by kos of different styles of fighting. Then he moved up a division and beat the person who hailed as pound for pound the best in boxing at the time. If he had the not lost control of himself after the leonard fight he may have moved up right then and won a third title. No mas not only had a effect on his legacy but his self confindence for at least 2 years.
