  • What are the coolest boxer nick-names?

Who's responsible for coming up with nick-names? Is it the fighter, the trainer, or the manager??

I always thought Roberto Duran had a cool one in "Hands of Stone!"
Holyfield "The Real Deal!!" Michael "Second to" Nunn...LOL
Tyson was always called "Iron," but I noticed in the Ruddock fights he was "Mighty Mike!!" Roger "Black Mamba" Mayweather...

Another thing, not that I'm knocking being Irish in any way.. But why is it Irish fighters nick-names are almost always "Irish?" You don't really see Italian fighters call themselves simply "Italian" or Mexican fighters call themselves "Mexican." They appear to be completely obsessed with their decent down to the green trunks...

Its well known that "Irish" used to be a code name used by promoters and managers for "White". The motives behind that should be obvious.

Never heard the "No Dice" nickname for Chacon. When he was on the rise he was always announced as "Schoolboy" Bobby Chacon.

First of all I think it's usually the boxer that picks their nickname, although sometimes it comes from or is influenced by other people. As for the coolest nicknames, here's my Top 5.

                1. Michael "Second To" Nunn
                2. Bernard "The Executioner" Hopkins
                3. "Marvelous" Marvin Hagler
                4. "Pretty Boy" Floyd Mayweather

And just for comedy value, Ive seen several of his bouts and I don't think I have ever heard him addressed this way, but several websites claim that Oleydong Sithsamerchai is also known as "The Deadly Candy".

                  "The Mexi-cutor" David Gonzalez.
                  I like it.
