Simon was the WBO champion at 160, Scott. He was undefeated and had beaten Winky Wright, the same guy Hopkins would shamelessly fight at 170 three years later.

I had actually forgotten that Simon was a MW too, like i said i barely remember him, just that he beat Winky and Wayne Alexander and was undefeated thats all. In fairness tho he only fought there twice at the time, Cherifi and some other dude, both points jobs.

Honestly cant remember ANY call for this one, it wouldnt have been a greaty fight, Hopkins would school em.

Armand Krajnc, then-WBO champion from Sweden. Until then undefeated. Its his second best win really. Krajnc beat, by tko, Jason Matthews and Bert Schenk.

I'm sure he was petrified that Simon was going to beat him of course

You can find the article on google. Its on the FORBIDDEN site. ESB.

In 2004 Simon was unranked by The Ring and hadn't fought in 2 years. Combine that with his legal problems and there was absolutely no call for this fight. Managers make up a lot of things to try and get their fighters fights and paydays, but that doesn't make them deserving challengers.

First the Simon/Wright bout was earlier in Wrights career before he was ranked high.

second the decision in Simon-Wright was controversial anyways.

third, at the time the wbo was not thought of very highly at the time.

And finally, Simon was sent to prison after winning the wbo middleweight trinket and did not fight for five years never defending the belt.

I wasn't even going to respond but I guess I did.

I'm not even going to look, but if Simon had any version of the middleweight title, nobody not related to him knew it. And I saw the Simon-Winky fight. It was originally scored a draw and then conveniently changed to a Simon win.

To keep things in the right context, Winky went on to score a big win over Trinidad and almost beat Taylor (who was 2-0 against Hopkins). In other words, he had something that Simon never had, name recognition. Not that Hopkins-Wright wasn't an awful fight though.

Gentlemen, this is just another attempt by Pastrano to discredit a great American fighter. Nothing new here
