Really? Wow, ol' Segundo Mercado must have been a mini George Foreman the way he bounced Hopkins off the canvas in '94.
Hopkins showed a lot of heart in that fight...and a ton of development and improvement over the next few years after it. The growth from Mercado II to Johnson into a complete fighter is remarkable stuff.

Big deal Bernard showed it was a fluke when he thoroughly and completely dominated him in the rematch and went on to win every fight in dominant fashion for the next 10+ years

          Genius...I know that, but....

You claimed the Hopkins who fought Roy Jones (in 1993) was stronger than Marvin Hagler. Yet, Mercado was able to dump a MORE MATURE Hopkins in late 1994.

So, again, explain how the 1993 Hopkins was stronger than Marvin Hagler.

Timelines and facts are crucial to debates, especially when your goal is to be the contrarian you want to be.

Yes, Bernard did show great heart....and went on to become a truly great middleweight and fighter.

But, this young dummy is claiming the 1993 Hopkins was stronger than Marvin Hagler. Marvin Hagler would eat any Mercado punch with his eyes open, and then tear the guy to shreds.

            • Again, I'd pick Roy to defeat Hagler by decision.

Just don't like the goofball opinions of SCtrojan in this thread.

Roy has better power, and ring IQ. Hagler fought an incredible dumb fight against Leonard and had bad gameplans against Antuofermo 1, Duran and Mugabi.

Roy's stamina was never a problem I doubt it would be against Hagler

Did you even see that fight? I don't know anybody who believes that fight was a draw. It was so clear Hagler won that Mills Lane was prepared to raise his hand at the end of the fight. And how was his "gameplan" bad in the other two fights?

Considering he brutalized and KTFO Mugabi it doesn't strike me as a "bad" gameplan

Mugabi was telling his corner he wanted to quit by the 5th (and between every round before he quit himself on his haunches late). Everything from there was a sad beating that ruined a young fighter.
