i'm pretty sure most people consider converted fighters those who are fighting in a stance opposite to their dominant hand (the hand you write with. everybody's got one, you are born with it.)

so if you write with your right hand and you fight as a southpaw you are a "converted southpaw"

i understand your nomination of the term "converted"
but if you hear "converted southpaw" on the tv or in a book it's referring to a right hander fighting lefty.

oscar de la hoya "converted" to orthodox (he's left handed)

chad dawson "converted" to southpaw or is a "converted southpaw" (he's naturally right handed.)

floyd mayweather is orthodox. paul williams is a southpaw (no conversions for either guy

"A long time ago, a couple of hundred years ago, this guy was fightin'. I think it was around Philadelphia. He was left-handed. His arm was facin' towards New Jersey. And that's south, so they called him Southpaw. You see? Southpaw, South Jersey, South Camden, Southpaw...You know what I mean?"

I would never train someone to fight the oppposite of their nature....even though it does have its advantages. Why? Just because I think if you're right-handed and fight southpaw, you'll never develop your left hand the way you would if you fought orthodox. By fighting righty, you will use your left hand to incessantly jab and hook....working it so much more than your right.

I'm a right-handed guy who can do very little in life with my left hand....except punch.
