Montiel's face looked like Jersey Joe against Marciano when he got hit, he went down like Hearns against Barkley, he did a little jig like Berbick against Tyson as he stumbled to get up, and then somehow, despite all that, snapped up and was just fine inside the count. Amazing...
This is what the ref saw when he looked at Montiel. I disagree with your assessment.

"Yes, ref, I am ready to continue to blart. And a very shmarlgle day to you too."

Well, he was allowed to continue after the knockdown but when Donaire swarmed, that's when the ref called it...

And I would argue that he never should have been allowed to continue. He had a divot in his head man.

And I would argue that top level professional boxers deserve the benefit of the doubt when they are able to weather a storm like that, and rise from a knockdown like he did. He shook it off, he was fine, dent or no dent, lol...

That's a good point. I disagree, but I see what you mean. He showed TREMENDOUS determination getting up but I guarantee you he doesn't remember the stoppage. Considering he fell down almost before another punch landed, it's a stretch to say that he shook it off and was fine.

After he got up and Donaire swarmed, Montiel took one more punch, a left hook, and he seemed to take the punch just fine. He was just backing up to survive the rush from Donaire. Sure, Donaire was probably gonna finish him off but it's not like a stiff breeze would have bowled him over at this point, because Donaire's left certainly didn't.

The determination in his eyes to clear his head and get up from that KD is something I will not soon forget, it was amazing...

Don't get me wrong, I was really proud of him for that. That was amazing. He looked like he had the Holy Spirit before he even hit the ground and he made it to his feet.

it's too early to tell for certain

but he punches as hard as any bantamweight i've ever seen.
he put a dent in montiels face
that punch moved his entire body

power like that at a weight like that comes along once in a generation.
i honestly don't there there's a man who can take those punches until he moves to FW (thats where the money is.)

it's unbelievable that the kid can even make BW
he's huge. i don't know how the hell he stayed so light early in his career
clearly it was the right decision.

The power he displayed against Montiel was stunning. Add to that, that Montiel, according to HBO, weighed 134 ringside compared to Donaires 126.

Playing Devil's advocate here: If Donaire's power is so amazing, how was Montiel able to shake off that shot and get up ready to fight like he did? Real serious ATG power (wielded by guys like Carlos Zarate) lays guys out cold right?
