  • Nonito Donaire - Where does his power rank all time?

Just rewatched the Montiel KO and...wow. That never ceases to amaze me. That is the single greatest knockout I have ever seen, especially because I saw it live. Better than Martinez-Williams, better than Jackson-Graham, maybe even better than Robinson-Fullmer. And Fernando Montiel is no mean opponent, either. That was his first stoppage loss and I've seen him take some SHOTS. He dented Montiel's face ffs

So that begs the question: where does Nonito Donaire's power as a bantamweight rank all time? Surely it's gotta be up there. It's not a division I'm quite as familiar with, but I can't really comprehend how you can hit much harder than that as a little guy.

I dont know too much about the history of the division so i cant make an accurate comment, but i cant imagine too many guys at the weight that have packed that kind of power

I was shocked Montiel got up,he was shaking on the floor it looked pretty brutal!

He has potential to rate amongst the best ever (power-wise at 118), but he hasn't been there long enough to be ranked yet.

His KO of Donaire was the best I've seen in a long time. Such a beautifully timed and executed punch, thrown with tons of force.

What kind of Mexican are you, preferring Donaire over Montiel?

Touche, touche. I like Montiel, I just like Donaire better. I have plenty of Mexicans on my roster, don't worry haha

Montiel is actually my cousin's neighbor. I haven't been down to Mochis lately (couldn't pay me to go to Sinaloa right now), but I saw him driving around his neighborhood doing an interview before the fight and I recognized where he was. I'll have to drop in next time I'm in town

Definitely one of the hardest hitting BWs ever. He's up there with Ruben Olivares, Eder Jofre, Carlos Zarate etc.
But I still think Zarate is the hardest punching BW of all time.

Zarate possessed one of the most complete arsenals in boxing history.

The fact that Montiel was able to get up from THAT and be ready to fight like he was in ten seconds never ceases to amaze me, and I can't believe I'd be saying this but I think the ref actually stopped that fight a little quick, as hard as that is to conceive. Montiel's face looked like Jersey Joe against Marciano when he got hit, he went down like Hearns against Barkley, had a Simon Brown moment punching at the air and twitching, he did a little jig like Berbick against Tyson as he stumbled to get up, and then somehow, despite all that, snapped up and was just fine inside the count. Amazing...
