  • Which weight was Qawi best at?

Lhw or cw? He made more defenses as a lhw, but as a cw he looked impressive in taking a young and prime Holyfield to a disputed decision after 15 rounds of pure war. Then he also got robbed against Ocassio. As a lhw, he beat Matthew Saad Muhammad twice, but Saad was arguably on the slide already in the first fight. Then he lost the title to Spinks in a brave way, but still without a doubt.

    LHW.

He was a great fighter and was one of the best in arguably the best era that division has ever seen.

He first went to cruiser when he was well into his thirties and became less serious in his training and Holyfield was a green fighter when Qawi took him 15. Had Qawi been prime he'd have beaten that version of Holyfield IMO.

I would say the Sadd rematch was his best fight. you see good boxing skills excellent head movement & jab and a good variety of punches. I honestly believe he would Muhammad at any point in his career, to bad he never fought Eddie Mustafa

But also when he fought Leon Spinks, he clowned with him and displayed his skills well. That was an impressive show, he also stopped him in 6 rounds.

Qawi was still very good at Cruiser, but was undoubtedly better at 175. He mowed through the comp in the ESPN tournament, destroyed Mike Rossman, outpointed the tough jailbird James Scott, then dismantled Saad Muhammad. He mad 3 dominant defenses before being outpointed by one of the best 175lbers ever in Spinks.

That all trumps beating Piet Crous, has-been Leon S, and losing twice (once in a classic) to Holyfield. He was totally destroyed by Evander in the rematch.
