everyone gonna prolly associate with frazier and i think its more interesting to make the discussion bigger....

funny thing bout briscoe guys worked as a sanitation worker for most of his career.. picking up trash during day and knocking fools out during night..

another cool guy from philly is george benton... had a pretty good career going but never became champ.. beat giardello among others.. but was shot and had to call it quits.. later became a really sucessfull trainer and was inducted to the hof on those merits...

heres rubin carter fighting george benton...

"Benton's boxing career ended when he was shot in 1970. The shooter, known around the neighborhood as Chinaman, had tried to pick up Benton's sister at a bar and Benton's brother knocked him out. Vowing to kill someone from the Benton family, Chinaman shot Benton in the back as he was walking to work. The bullet is still lodged near his spine."

Joe Frazier, Matthew Saad Muhammad, Bennie Briscoe and Dwight Qawi if you want to count him from Philly, not born there but when he came out of prison he went straight to Joe Frazier's gym and learnt his trade there.

Hey, I'm just throwing it out there, but wouldn't Philadelphia Jack O'Brien be from Philadelphia, ---------- Just throwin' it out there.

He's not the first to come to mind though, we're not just naming Phlly boxers otherwise the list would be huge.

You got to it before me. Great call with Saad Muhammad, I was surprised he wasn't mentioned right away.
