I would definitely take Liston's pre-title run over Foreman's, for competition faced & defeated. Granted, Liston's pre-title run lasted several years more than Foreman's, but there is a pretty clear distinction in top HW's beaten, as I see it. To be fair, Frazier is better than anybody Liston bested, & Norton is roughly on par with even the best of Liston's rivals, but then again, if you exclude Frazier, there is really no one on Foreman's victim list the equal of Norton, whereas Liston has two or three fellas about Norton's equal whom he beat.

Liston beat a light heavyweight in Patterson and a slow plodding nobody in Cleveland Williams so apparently that makes him the greatest things since slice breat huh?

Liston stands no chance against Foreman period

And Liston never beat anybody as good as Norton or even somebody as good as Peralta.

Patterson was not a Light-Heavyweight. He was a small Heavy, there is a difference. He certainly had the punch of a Heavyweight --- one of Patterson's most under-rated weapons was his punch, he could hit a lot harder than anyone with his speed had a right to do.

He was absolutely as good as Norton, & he was completely a superior fighter to Peralta --- who, incidentally, was an actual Light-Heavy, & one Foreman twice struggled mightily to get the better of, I might add.

Again, Liston's pre-title run is plainly, unarguably superior to Foreman's.

Cleveland Williams is a slow plodding nobody now? I swear to God the idiots are piling up around here :nuts9: And I suppose Eddie Machen was a featherfisted Light-Heavy nobody too?

Seriously dude: Just admit you're an ignorant **** that doesn't know jack **** about Heavyweights of that era.

As somebody mentioned earlier Foreman was bigger stronger and faster tough to go against him. I got Foreman winning by KO in the middle rounds

I have a feeling Liston would approach the fight very much like he did Cleveland Williams, which would be suicide IMO. Foreman has shown he can take punches and get back up in his fight with Lyle.

Foreman hit much harder than Cleveland Williams, and I expect Sonny to not take Foremans bombs. Don't get me wrong, Liston will hurt Foreman but Foreman wins by stoppage in this type of match-up.

this is foreman all the way as cus damato said - no man in history stands toe to toe with foreman and comes out on top - ok thats not the exact quote but it was something along those lines. Liston has just got the wrong style to beat foreman ... for example somebody like larry holmes would do very well against foreman due to his movement ... somebody like rocky m would be destroyed. Liston doesn't have the movement to beat george - its all about the styles.

I Know Liston once said that "This kid Foreman dosnt have one punch KO power he has one punch killing power" or something like that so obviously he had tasted Georges power in sparring and had a great respect for it. Sonny is one of the meanest hardest punching fighters of all time tho, and hit, while not as hard as George (imo) More than hard enough to hurt him. He had better skill and technique, threw straighter shots and had better reach. Tho Foreman had height and some weight on him along with the slight power edge.

Hard fight to call both men could pull off the win but if i had to bet on it my money would be on George to land the heavy shots that get Liston outta there, mabey say around the 6th

Anyone heard any of the sparring stories?
