  • How much did those 2 lbs affect Cotto...

Having to come down to 145 against Pacquiao? I want to ask you guys this because the NSB crowd is ******ed for the most part. He looked really sharp in the first but just couldn't keep up with Pacquiao's tempo. Now, you can say that maybe Pacquiao was just waiting to see if he could take Cotto's punch - he could - and then jump on him. But did having to cut those extra two pounds make a real impact on the fight? Because Cotto was clearly gassed by the late-mid rounds.

I dont think it made a big impact personally, cotto had gassed in his last two big fights prior and against a guy like manny it was always going too happen again

It was only one pound lighter than his previous fight against Clottey. I don't think that one pound(or two if you want) really made so much difference. It is more likely he wasn't fully recovered fron his previous ko loss but at some point we must give credit to the fighter that was in front of him.

Cotto was and is one of my favorite fighters but his tendency to fade late was established before his fight with Manny and the 1lb he weighed less than his previous fight 5 months earlier had nothing to do with it. Whenever he has been pressured he's faded unless his early work was enough to sap his opponent. This was shown against Mosley, Margarito and Clottey in my opinion. He's just not a big welter and his fighting style just isn't conducive to maintaining his pace and taking punishment. Jmo.

Alright, this seems to be the consensus. I was just wondering because Cotto didn't fade, he absolutely fell off a cliff. Awesome first round, put up a fight in the second, won the third round (but got flashed), won the fourth round (but got brutally KD'd) and that was it. Run run run. But I didn't realize that he had weighed in at 146 for his fight against Clottey. It's weird that he would do that, considering I remember the HBO team saying he was in there at 165-170. BTW, how do you do something like that? I get hydrating up 10 pounds, but 25?

I think he dropped off because of the knockdowns and because Pacquiao was killing him in the war that transpired the first four rounds more than he was killing Pacquiao. Also, he just didn't know how to respond to the pressure and activity Pacquiao brings, just like Margarito was able to to do Cotto.

Ok, never mind. Going through their rankings, they have Naz ten spots above Sanchez. Something fishy about that...

that amount of weight should have no impact on the outcome or performance of a fighter
