Psychology. Manny gets to feel more comfortable, Cotto has one more thing on his mind. I don't think it would have made a difference either way, but this is the only thing that makes sense to me.

In many cases what you're saying is true. But Im not aware of Cotto struggling before or leading up to the Pacquiao fight and looked in great shape going in. The possibility is there, but history (5 of Cotto's 9 fights at 147 he came in under the limit) would suggest it wasn't the weight but the step up in competition. Jmo.

Well he did move up a division in his next fight. I think he struggled at the weight personally but i do have to admit and agree with you the opponent was by far the biggest problem he faced.

Its just annoying that Manny cheapens his wins with this, when he dont need to. The WBO are a disgrace for forcing Cotto - thier flagship fighter for years, to put his belt on the line at a weight less than the division limit. Same with the Marg fight, how can it be for the championship of the division if the fighters must weigh UNDER that limit? Irratating.

Bottom line tho Manny Pacquaio is a machine and would have won these fights regardless

I think he moved up because he had no where else to go at welter but but down the rankings. That is only MY opinion though.

I agree 100% and its just more reinforcement why I can't stand the alphabet soup groups. Manny asking for a catchweight is fine. But the WBO forcing it and threatening to strop Cotto if he doesn't abide by it just shows how corrupt and money hungry these dirtbags are.

If you're talking about Pac-Marg, that fight was a farce to begin with. The WBC let two fighters who had no recent history of fighting in that division have a ranking so they could fight for the title. This was done because 1 with Pac making history its in their best interest to have it done with their belt. And 2 because their two top rated contenders wouldn't have brought a fraction of the sanctioning fee as Pac-Margs. Its a sad testament when boxings governing bodies would rather give title shots for money instead of the guys who actually earned their ranking and RIGHT to fight for the title.
