Devastation over a dominating welterweight champion. Cuevas was an excellent welterweight champion. He held the title for four years and made 13 title defenses destroying everybody put in front of him. Only Randy Shields went the distance during Cuevas title reign. Hearns knocking him out in two was one of the most impressive performances in history from challenger. I think Hearns has to be top 10 and would be a very difficult fight for any welterweight in history. The only fighter at that time who could beat Hearns was Leonard who is an all time great welterweight. And Leonard went through hell to do it. No shame in that.

Perhaps but i still think he was a good enough WW to warrent the choice. It also might have something to do with him being fresh in my head after reading about him again today!

He did campaign at the division for 6years and had near 40 fights there and lost a disputed split with another great WW Fritzie Zivic (twice avenged) who beat Armstrong and everyone has him high on the list. A win over Holman Williams aint bad either. His best years were what, 1939 to 1942? He fought 27 times then and 12 of those at WW.

Notice ur a Buchanan fan, he just became the ambassador for a boxing club 20mins from me!

Cuevas was a very good champion and I agree the way in which he dispatched him was impressive but, it was one of his best wins at that weight and his victories does not match up with others in my opinion.

Leonard still beat him though, regardless of the how the fight went.

Yes, Hearns would be very difficult to beat at Welterweight and in a H2H list at that weight he would be Top 5, I am not taking this into account though. I'm merely going on resume, longelivity, accomplishments in which I don't think he deserves to be above the others.

He is just outside the Top 10 though and narrowly misses.

Nice, seen him in Edinburgh 2 weeks ago at an Amateur Boxing Show. He was sitting with the fans and got offered V.I.P(lol) seats about 4 times refusing them all. He preferred to sit on the ****ty seats up with the fans. Things like that warrant respect in my opinion.

            Class.

He was at my local nightclub for a charity boxing event where a few of my mates were fighting, got a picture with him an autograph and a good long chat. Dude was more drunk then ME! No mean feat that night, things like that warrant My Respect! lol

Watched a Documentary on Buchanan yesterday, had forgotten how good he was . Apparently still gets pains from when Duran busted his ball.

Hearns did not do enough at Welter all to warrant a position in the top 10 at especially with it being as deep as it is.
A win over Pipino Cuevas is simply not enough no matter how good the performance.

Very classy fighter, shame the Duran fight ended the way it did.

Had the Leonard fight only been 12 rounds, Hearns would have won the fight almost 9-3. Pretty impressive performance, despite losing.

Also, despite not having many title defences, Hearns beat top opponents Espada, Gray, Weston, Curry, Finch and Shields. Of course Cuevas was his best win.

I dont neceesarily know if hes top 10(since WW is such a deep division), but its probably not fair to judge him solely on his title defences.
