Why do you think that? He beat a the top contenders and beat a future heavyweight champion, no?

Gene Tunney was a top 15 heavyweight (or at least one of the top 15 fighters who has fought at heavyweight) and Greb beat Tunney at his best weight.

Tunney beat Greb many times. Dempsey would have killed him.

There was a controversial decision for Tunney, a no contest and a whooping on either side. Gene went 2-1-0-1 (0 KO's). Hardly many times. And Greb went toe-to-toe with Dempsey in practice and supposedly got the advantage.

McCall dropped Tyson in sparring. Amir Khan bested Pacquiao in sparring. Valero beat up De La Hoya in sparring. What does that mean?

Tunney lost 1 fight to Greb which Tunney did well up til the 10th and I have read that Greb used dirty tactics against Tunney which resulted in many cuts on his face.

Anything more than 1 is many. The fact is Tunney beat Greb 3 times.

Tunney is a different kind of fighter from Dempsey. In a world title fight, Dempsey would absolutely kill Harry Greb.

seeing as both Charles and Archie Moore were middleweights at one time(unless Im mistaken) and both fought for the HW title, Charles winning it, I will choose them.

Your sparring point is taken, but Greb beat Tunney fair and square in their first fight. At least, according to the articles that I've read, which again brings me to the unreliability of newspaper articles...And Tunney only beat Greb twice. One was a no-contest, the details of which I'm not sure on. Again, hardly a one-sided rivalry, although I've heard that their third fight was a real thrashing. But their second fight, many believed that Greb deserved the nod. Any way you slice it, he showed that he could rumble with a legitimate all-time great heavyweight. Dempsey is probably a bad matchup because he'd just outmuscle and out**** Greb. I'll give you that.

They fought 5 times... Tunney won 3.... Greb never fought fair, this is well documented so to say "Greb beat Tunney fair and square" is going against what we know of Greb.. I believe it was Mickey Walker who was so upset at Grebs unfair tactics that he assailed him after a fight and knocked him unconscious.
